Mileage Reporting 43rd week of 2012

9k in total for me this week. A mix of slow running & walking. (running so slow that other walkers were overtaking me :D)
Also I find slow running much easier and comfortable than walking, as its so much easier to keep my heels off the ground (well almost.. it barely softly touches now) that way.

Started off 3k shod on sunday felt miserable so kicked off my shoes and continued 2k barefoot, rested monday to see how I felt. Did 7k yesterday morning now a four day rest period even though I feel perfectly fine.

Had a "wow" moment last evening when at the park, 4yr old son ran to the gate way ahead of me, so fear (for his safety) got me sprinting towards him..bout 500m but wow, it was like my legs moved but I was just gliding. Felt as though my upeer body was just suspended in the air!

Done for this week. :)

1.5 bf walk w/ the fam after dinner, wet sidewalks. Reflexively brought my huaraches, till I realized, duh, we're just goign around the neighborhood and it's 60 degrees outside. Calves still TIGHT

~3 mi this morning. calves still tight but not as TIGHT as last night. 5.5 hrs of sleep (up from 4) seems to have put my energy levels up again too.

Dahhhhhling whaaaat did you doooo this mooRning?
A good half an hour of BOOOOOOldering my dear, as Yusual.
Now I'm going to go to the Draw-ring room and eat my OOOOOOOAts.

OK..I'm getting a vague feeling...just the slightest feeling that...that I'm being mocked. Yes! That's what it is! Mocked!

Now if you'll 'scuze me, I need to go back to sleep so I can wake up in time to make me some M-er F-ing oats for breakfast! :D

(but I usually eat those in the dining room, not the drawing room)

Did a lite version of my back strength-training workout (lower back, hips and .... won't mention the 'G' word, for Scedastic's sake). I didn't want to make my knee bear too much weight yet. Max deadlift was just 175, with higher reps. Squats were just a quarter and with dumbbells. Still, got a good pump. I'm enjoying some of the new floor stuff with ankle weights I've recently added--really good for the hips. I'm trying to make a more concerted effort to condition the lower body to support the running better, hoping that will prevent future tweaks and niggles. Felt the knee a little on the lateral stuff, but overall feels OK today, so I guess I'll go out on another short run tomorrow.

I pulled out the old Altra Adams today and did 3.23 miles in them. I wear them without the insoles and I now remember why I have a love/hate relationship with them. First, they are about a half size too short on my right foot, but perfect length on the left. Next, they are perfect width on the right foot, but too narrow on the left. I love the ground feel in them but then I hate the floppiness in the forefoot area (I can't sinch up the front strap because of my wide feet. Any cinching then my feet fall asleep and go numb). The finish of them is pretty crude so I ended up with a few hotspots due to the abrasive rubbing from the material used and lack of quality control at the seams. I loved being able to tell exactly how my foot was landing and therefore I was able to stay in the sweet springy spot most of my run once I found my groove. My toes on my left foot went to sleep (left foot is wider than right which makes the shoes slightly too narrow on that foot) about 1.5 miles in which sucked, so I had to stop and shake the foot and wake it back up. Over all I had a great run in these, but I am very excited/nervous for my Zem Terras to get here. Hopefully they will solve some of the problems I have with the Altra Adams.

In honor of you, we had eggs AND oats for breakfast today.

The thick, damp, chilly fog began burning off just in time for my first really cold run. Estimated 4.75 miles at 37 F, start to finish. I know that doesn't qualify for this winter challenge thing, but it was good for me. :D Only a few wet spots and I did it all barefoot. Comfortable except for a teensy cut in one toe that I must have gotten Tuesday. I just felt it sometimes; the run was still loads of fun. Needed to run while my youngest was with her Spanish tutor, so was on a totally new route. Ended up on the sidewalk 80% of the time, partly because it was busy streets. That was nice though. Saw quite a few people slow down a bit as they drove by. Not quite sure what they saw, I guess.;)

Actually it does qualify for the winter challenge. Below 41F my dear. :)

Actually I think it's 41F and below. You just have to go add it to the chart in the winter challenge area.
Well, fun to know, but I'm pretty sure I won't be "challenging" anyone consistently in this category. Maybe I should post it, though, just to make 'em scared... :p
