Mileage Reporting 32nd Week of 2013

Noooooooooooo, not PF:doctor:
Sorry Abide, hope it heals soon.

Thanks man, been working on entering into new pace territories as of lately. Hope that PF issue is short lived.

Thanks you two! Today has been the worst day of it so hopefully it'll retunr to the dull pain it was before.

Something interesting happened though, prior to the PF I was having Achilles tendonitis/tendonosis issues. As soon as the PF started flaring up the AT went away? I'm not sure which I'd prefer either if I had a choice as they are both about the same pain level. Not really sure why it seems like it always works that way any ideas?

Mike shared this awhile back and I have found it to be very useful.
You might want to look at it.

Limited myself to ONE mile. Got out of bed and ran before anything else and no warm up other than walking to the car, so I'm feeling pretty good about a 7:45 pace for the mile. Just trying to coast until Saturday morning now.... already feel rested enough, but am trying to block the temptation to go out and do more just because it sounds fun.

26 km on monday, 12 km today, feet and legs fine. A bit sore in my shoulders (!), but not much more. I moved to copenhagen a week ago or so, and its a a much better city for bfr than Prague ever was. Lots of nice pavements, no hills, a 6-km route around some lakes just next to where I live, and the harbor only a few km away-- and more than anything, the air here is much better than the so called air in Prague, with the pollution and lack of sea salt. (Why, they even have artificial salt caves there, normal rooms with lots of salt from the Dead Sea, you sit there for an hour to cure your asthma et al. In copenhagen the air is full of salt all the time, and my lungs ank me for coming here, every day.)

After 26 km (5:1 run :walk), the 12 km was a breeze, marvelous feeling of effortless gliding over the surface (except where my feet found gravel, of course, but it might come too, in time), of being able to run much longer if it hadn't been for my lack of training. Strange to have run 38 km in three days and not be tired in my muscles, just a general fatigue, and even that fatigue a slight one. Feel like I could go for a long run tomorrow as well, but I don't think I should, I should hold back a bit, my shoulders you see...

During the last kms today I couldn't help but be very grateful for having gone thought the pain of getting used to running barefoot, the embarrassment of running gingerly over cobble stones, the thorns and gravel and splinters. If this is the experience of running barefoot, then it was all worth it.

You can bet your right arm that I won't have the same experience, and won't be half as grateful, when I hit gravel next time I run.

Did a little over 8 miles on Sunday. Starting to feel more confident with this distance and ready to maybe try something over 9 miles at least once a week. Now that I am signed up for a half marathon in late September, it's time to check out the course. It's going to be a mix of concrete, asphalt, dirt, and maybe even some gravel, so, I'll want to run it at least a couple of times.

Are you planning on running this half barefoot? I am thinking of running a half in Omaha barefoot this fall but have not yet ran that far. The furthest I have ran has been 9.5 miles. I too am planning on extending my mileage once a week to attempt to reach the half distance.

I planned to do a short, leisurely jaunt on the beach to blow out the stiffness after last night's basketball game, but somehow I ended up running further and faster than I planned to. Only 7.1km at 4:45 pace, but that's pretty good for me. I had the "just a little furthers" on the outward leg, despite running into the wind, and then I turned around and flew along on the breeze. I even nearly caught a guy, but he stopped running just before I got to him. No fair!

I'm glad to see that you are taking it easy before the tri (!) I would kill (well, almost) for 7:45 mile. Good work!

A bit sore in my shoulders (!), but not much more.

I felt something similar after Tuesday's run. I wasn't feeling great and it was a tough run. My shoulders were sore the rest of the day from, I think, my trying to "run light."

Interval training today, 3x12'@4'50"/km (about 7'40"/mi) for a total of 10.5km/6.6mi...Last run before Sunday's race, and it is pouring down !! I think the forecast is for nice and sunny Sunday.

I did a survey of the course, and it seems reasonably barefoot friendly, so I should have no problems

Yup. Going to do it barefoot. Haven't worn anything on my feet for running since April. Not planning to until the snow flies.

Morning: gym, 30 min boring elliptical, 30 min weights
Lunch: 1hr 30 min swim, started w 60 lap freestyle interval continuous. Longest so far.
Like running, I've come to love the meditative trance like quality of just swimming on and on.
Legs were fine after yesterday's run except a couple of weird tender spots under foot, which I am guessing were little sore spots from stepping on rocks. Wearing shoes during the day made it disappear.

Happy belated birthday Lee!

No running for me. This selling a condo and moving stuff kinda sucks. Oh, and so does this bee sting. Woke up this morning and my eye is swollen even worse and now everyone is getting on my case to go to the dr. Stupid bees. Never been allergic before...
Oh dear. I have developed some new allergies as an adult, but so far I assume bee stings won't bother me, just because they never have, but I will watch out now.
Goodness, that bee got the best of you! Are you having any other symptoms? Swelling anywhere else to indicate systematic reaction?

I haven’t been on the mileage reporting threads in a while but just wanted to chime in quick since I have a big race coming up. Well big for me, not so much for some other folks! Anyhow, running the Columbus 1/2 marathon on Sunday. Last year this race was my very first half, and then I ran one in spring, so this makes #3. It will also be my first 1/2 where I am comfortable with the distance prior. However these last few weeks haven’t been good, but I hope my base is still there. The weekend before my mountain trip was busy and I didnt get a long run in, then I had the mountain trip, which was very strenuous and left me pretty low on energy and made my running gait feel all outta whack for a while. Last weekend, the weekend prior to my race I wanted a good run but also wanted to taper a bit so I compromised with 13 mile run. Tapering more, on Tuesday I ran 6 miles, with one fast paced mile just to make sure I did some speed since everything went out of whack from hiking. I plan on just doing an easy, maybe 4-ish mile run tomorrow or Friday and that should be it, or perhaps a one mile jog just to stretch the legs a little Saturday.

Between my first a second half I dropped 10 minutes. I highly doubt I can do that again, but my goal is to break my last time by 1 minute, putting me into the 1:30's. Honestly I think #2 I summoned speed from out of thin air somehow, I'm really worried I wont be able to even be as fast I was in spring! But I'll be super happy if all I can do is just hit that same time again.

Happysongbird - I havent been following along in a while but just based on your comments on the last page, and then seeing what you wrote on profile, looks like you have a tri coming up... Have great luck! And your looking pretty good in your new avatar btw. ;) I can't swim for crap (unless dog paddle counts) so I've ruled out ever doing a tri by myself. Duathalons I've given thought, but when I looked into a few this year I think they all require shoes. Sorry if you've already discussed this but does yours? Also my big fat tired mountain bike might hold me back a little. Really want a nice roadbike but looked at a few and... :greedy:

Don't count yourself out for swimming. I started taking lessons in Feb, with blowing bubbles at the bottom of 4 ft of water. I can now manage all 4 strokes and got up to a mile recently. It just takes persistence, which all barefooters possess!

Good luck with the 1/2!
