Mileage Reporting 24th Week of 2013

6.4km barefoot yesterday, first time I've done two BF days in a row for a long time. I thought my feet copped a little bit of bruising, but it turns out it is a stubborn splinter that I've had for a few weeks and can't seem to dig out. Maybe I'll have another crack at it tonight.

In other news, the local cross country running club is having a run at my home beach, so I'm thinking of popping along and joining in. I'm a little nervous about being the crap runner who doesn't fit in, so hopefully there are at least a few pockets of dud runners who are just doing it for fun. I like the idea of cross country running, but I'm not going to enjoy it if it's too competitive.

I ran 6 miles at 4:45 am, 82 deg. f., 62%rh. Excellent run. Saw lightning bug and 3 rabbits. heard the rooster crow. feet good legs good.

ate my weight in strawberries, then had strawberries for dessert.
I LOVE strawberries! I only stop eating them when I feel I will bust open. That's about the only food I'm like that with.

Began a hopeful 8 mile run at 10:30 AM only to get a phone call that I was missing my hard to schedule hair appointment. Not to mention it was the exciting one for getting a new short haircut! So, went to that after a mere 2 miles. Had to eat some lunch when I got home, so emailed hubby to see if he was up to a run in the cool of the evening. He said, Yes. He's just up to 5 miles finally after surgery, but he let me go ahead and run more while he walked a bit, which brought it up to 6.2 for that run. I would have rather done all 8 at once, but it was nice to run with him.

The problem is that women who bake cookies tend to share them freely with men regardless of the interest in marriage, just to be nice, and because baking cookies is fun.
Would you then imprint on her like a little duckling? What if SHE had no idea sharing chocolate chip cookies was a proposal? Wasn't this a B movie? With whatshername and that guy?
And we won't go into grandma types you may meet who bake cookies for everyone. Then what would you do? Don't answer.

OK, I think the unspoken assumption was that I was already in a relationship with said woman, hence the advancement to marriage. I mean, it's not like I was going to marry the girl behind the counter at Mrs. Fields (b'sides, most of them violate the "Half your age plus seven" rule)

5 mi trail "run" in 1:07...though I think it might be closer to 1:09 or so. The MapMyRun app has a cool feature that will automatically pause when you're stopped (like at a light); the problem is that I guess at times I go slow enough up hill that the GPS doesn't sense any movement and pauses..stupid Android App...

Despite waking up on the wrong side of the planet-
I told my mind and body SCREW YOU and ran 7 miles on Wildwood in the rain!

Psst...the earth is round...doesn't really have...you know...sides...just sayin'...

5.26 mi / 8.5 km run
6.18 mi / 10 km total
77 F / 25 C, sunny

I headed down to the JHS track for some intervals. My legs still felt a little groggy from Tuesday’s long run. Normally I like to do the long runs on a weekend and have two days of rest afterwards.

After a half-mile warm-up a little below tempo pace, I did two one-mile intervals. I could only muster tempo pace. Then I ran a mile and a half at aerobic pace. About halfway through I jumped up on the grassy field inside the track. My feet were getting fed up with the track’s sandy gravel. Plus, grass is such a lovely texture, so soothing and mellow after the hard stuff.

After that, I decided to stick to the grass and do some 120-yard ‘sprints’ to finish. I ended up Bogarting and did 18. A hundred and twenty yards was the perfect interval distance for my effort level that day. Just when it started to require real mental effort to keep going, I could stop. I then walked the breadth of the field and ran down the other side, until I got to the back line of the other endzone and took another walking break across that, to complete the square. I bounced between 6:45 and 7:30mm pace on those. A bit slow for such a short distance, but it felt good to open up the range of motion some. Incredible that some of my barefoot homeys can run that pace for a whole half Mary!

3 miles of what was supposed to be a easy run but turned out to be about 1 minute a mile faster than the pace I was looking for. I am such a bad judge of pace, some runs that feel fast are slow, and some some runs that feel slow are fast. Last run before an attempt at a bare half, at least the weather looks like it is going to be on the cool side, I hope that holds true, should be a good day for a walk. :)
Me too. I can easily be a minute per mile off on my pace perception. When I come home and look at my Garmin, I'm usually surprised, one way or the other. These days I tend to classify my paces according to effort level: aerobic/easy; tempo/middle effort; and anaerobic/real effort.

Pics of the new hair do? Please?
Lately I have been thinking of getting a short, short hair cut but I am such a procrastinator.
Yesterday I ran six miles AT NOON 82 degs and the sidewalks where HOY, HOT, HOT by the end of the run I thought that for sure I had given myself a blister but it was all a false alarm:D.
All my favorite running routes are closed due to either flooding or construction and that really sucks:(

@Lee, nice workout there Mr!

Strawberries? I don't think I remember how to pick strawberries...
Most people "pick" them up at the supermarket or a corner in a box, but I have grown them in my garden. The hardest thing about picking them is getting to them before the birds!
I'm wondering if I need to send you cookies just so that your future relationships are not burdened by this prediction you mentioned, :D although I find it hard to believe that no one has made you cookies before. Maybe it's just that we are a cooking and baking family, and I find it incomprehensible that people don't regularly have fresh cookies.:)

OOPS! I never bake cookies/cakes or anything to that effect:D but you can send me some cookies, I will love to eat them:hungry:

I will be ditching the garmin for the rest of the year and just run with what feels comfortable on that day. This will keep being dissapointed down and keep my running less of a chore that has to be done at a certain pace. :)

I only wear my garming on long and unkown running routes or on races other than that I am Garming free for most of my runs so I am usually running by effort.

Yah, I monkeyed with pace alerts a bit last year, but that really sucked all the fun out of running. And it doesn't really make sense to run at a strict pace anyway if you're dealing with varying terrain /surfaces, right? It seems to make a lot more sense to calibrate to effort-level (maybe I'll call my three gears 'sight-seeing', 'middle-management', and 'I hope I don't die', for aerobic, lactate threshold, and anaerobic efforts, respectively). I still like to run with the Garmin though and check my data when I get back. It's a nice little pat on the back when I note some improvement, or go a bit faster than I thought I was going.

Hey Dutchie, you mentioned taking my wife out for dinner and asking her again for permission to "race." What sort of dish goes best with the half Mary?

Good to see your back is better Dama. No more rescuing people twice your size, you hear?!

Loud and clear Sr and thanks.
I like you calibration system but I still have more fun running by effort, my pat on the back comes when I cover the distance in less time than ussual. I am talking a previously messured distances here.

It curls as it will. I've only had it this short about 3 times in my life, so even though I wanted it, it is a bit of a shock!

Thanks! it looks awesome! awesome! Doesn't make you feel lighter?
I go thrugh hair styles stages every now and then sometimes I have it cut very short and then I let grow until it drives me crazy. Right now it seats just below the shoulders but it's longer than it looks it curls too much and it's driving me bananas.
