Any of you guys ever bother?
Today I ran a 5K race timed with chronotrack B-tag and was thrilled with my personal wristwatch time of 29:11 since I've barely been running (but of course running bare) this year due to my neck crisis.
Imagine the thrill I got seeing MY name with MY bib # listed at 22:44 for a pace of 7:19!
Thoughts were racing through my head...do I really go up to the awards podium and accept my 3'rd place finish? (men 55-59) Won't half of the people there remember that the barefoot guy came in slower than that? What about all those with slower times who commented on my feet as they PASSED me during the final mile? Well, as they revised the printouts I slid to fourth, but still was being attributed the same blazing time. No awards ceremony trip in front of the crowd, so no real dilema anymore.
Turned out they only went two deep anyways, despite the 3,000 entrants.
Once home the error became obvious.....the bib number was one digit off of the number stamped on the chip! Scanning the results online I found my guy, a 46 year old with my REAL time and a bib # the same as my chip #. I easily found him on Facebook, and PM'd him with the scoop. Have'nt heard back from him yet, but if he does'nt respond, I'll just keep the time I guess.
So the real ethics question will become:
If someone ever taps me to become their running mate in a presidential campaign, during an interview if I'm asked what my best 5K time was......do I claim 22:44?
I mean it can be proven easily with an online search, right?
So....anyone ever cross check their bib # with the chip #? I will, next time it probably WON'T be an error in MY favor!
