Primal Reflex: Snake Encounter Proves Feet are Faster than Cognition

This morning as I was heading toward the road that takes me to the beach for my runand one more time I suddenly found that my feet were leaping from the earth and then kicking gravel. As my brain caught up I saw athree foot snake slither away unharmed. We just suprised each other. This is great evidence that the unconscious system runs most of the show when we are running. Had not thought about this before. I want to get more conscious of what happens when we run so I can bea more effective coach for new barefoot runners. Anyway had a great run with an elevated heart rate.

I have to admit I was kind of expecting to finda post about making huaraches soles out of snake skins and lacing from pig intestinesbeing marketed as the Primal Reflex: Snake Encounters.Haha

On another similar note I ran over a snake on my bike yesterday morning :)

Been there done that. What kind of snake.?

Me too. Nothing new. Just had not thought about how fast the unconscious system works before and how it monitors and adjusts while we are running. Not sure about identity of snake.

Cool sounding shoes.

Apparently I ran over a rattlesnake. This is the first one Ihave ever seen in the wild.
