For gym work, since my gym requires I wear shoes, I wear Merrel Bare Access 2's. They have a nice wide toe box, and zero drop. Not crazy about all the padding (13mm isn't too bad), but you gotta take the good with the bad sometimes. Did a 13 mile run in them the last couple of Saturdays (recovering from some stone bruising), and they felt great.
