Thanks Jim(s). Yeah when you

Thanks Jim(s). Yeah when you work a muscle/fascia with your hands or a ball you typically want to stay off where the pain is the worse. So if you have heel pain, look for the points in the post tib or in the arch, or towards the toes. Mashing on the high intensity pain will just make it worse.

Hey shirts are in - here's where you can order them!

So, after a 4.58 mile run

So, after a 4.58 mile run today I've decided I'm going to have to go see a doc about this damn heel. This afternoon I can barely walk... Ugh!

Thanks Daniel!  I looked at

Thanks Daniel! I looked at the photo in your link and the pain I have is at the very back of my heel but is excruciating pain. I can still barely walk this morning. I had stopped running for about 6-7 days during the holidays and it had seemed to go away but then running this past week it has come back with a vengence. I'm really nervous about going to my normal podiatrist as he is very orthotic happy. Not sure if I can find one who is more barefoot friendly. I looked on the map but there is only one on there and I don't know if I want to go into Portland. I hate driving in the city.

seeing dr ray will be well

seeing dr ray will be well worth it, if you can get in. if you decide to go to anyone else you already know the diagnosis. pf, orthotics, and rest. that'll be $80 please.

Your probably right Mike.  I

Your probably right Mike. I just hate going into Portland, it kinda scares me a bit. Too big and can't see the horizon, too many confusing one way streets, bus lanes only, weirdos, etc....

I just called our insurance as we had just changed providers a few months a go and am happy to find out I do not need a referral to see a podiatrist now! Woohoo!

So I just called Dr Ray,

So I just called Dr Ray, Mike, and they do not accept insurance, they are an out of network provider they said and you have to pay in full at time of appointment and they will give you some form to send to your insurance provider so you can get reimbursed when your insurance decides to get to it. Insurances tend to be not quick on reimbursing and I am a poor college student barely making it right now so this is just not an option for me. Hopefully I can find another barefoot friendly Dr....

Well, I have to wait till

Well, I have to wait till next Monday to see a dr so I'm off for a week at least I guess. Sucks having to coordinate schedules with my wifes work, her school, my school, and the drs office just so I can make sure we have a babysitter for my son. Soonest I can make everyone's schedules work out is Monday. So much for me losing almost 5 pounds last week....

I second that. I have seen him twice as a patient and highly recommend him. He really encourages running barefoot.

Nick, Call Dr. Ray back and

Nick, Call Dr. Ray back and ask him if he knows of another barefoot-friendly doctor in or around your area. Heal well, heal fast.

I know you are done with

I know you are done with doctors and your back, for now anyway, hope forever, but Dr. Ray is a podiatrist. He developed Correct Toes. I thought you were needing a podiatrist. He could tell you if there are more BF-friendly podiatrists around.

TJ I was just making a funny

TJ I was just making a funny observation because of the other thread and how I was saying my back has gotten better with barefooting. Guess I didn't make that clear.

I would really like to go to Dr Ray but he is too expensive out of pocket and I just can't afford that. I have a podiatrist that I have used in the past, over a year and a half ago last time, but not sure how he feels about barefoot. I am scheduled to see him next Monday so we'll see. I know in the past he had me get orthotics for a supposed arthritis that seems to have gone away, but I can't remember if he ever talked to me about being barefoot or anything like that. I guess if anything I will find out how he feels about it and will be able to post not to use him for others out here if he doesn't like it.

I'm sorry to hear that you have pain, but I hope that I can help with that.

PLANTAR FASCIITIS come from too much chronic STRESS in the plantar fascia of the foot. It starts with inflammation that turns into scar tissue that later calcifies.
The question is... What is the cause of this chronic stress in your foot?
In walking or running as you know there is simplistically the "take off" and the "landing". We all know the majority of STRESS injuries occur in the landings.
Like a plane, the human body has a landing gear, spring-loaded shock absorbing mechanism built into the arch complex as well as the muscles that allow the foot to impact like a spring and not a bang.

Foot Spring Suspension Muscles: http://teamdoctorsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Spring-Suspension-system-muscles.jpg
The key is to
· release the muscle spasms around the 33 joints of the foot, so they can move better. That allows the impact to be moe evenly distributed across the foot like a spring load instead of a bang.
· Stretch the foot in a 3 dimensional plane so it is flexible to absorb the impacts of walking
· strengthen the suspension system muscles or the pronation supination cuff muscles that suspend the arch so it works like a spring to spring you off the ground rather than bang you into the ground
