While I like this in concept, my more cynical side is leading to mixed emotions about this. While - under the right guidance - this can be a wonderful thing, I think there is a danger of things going horribly wrong if the wrong element takes hold in the foundation.
All this said, I have exactly zero experience with the UM crowd (actually, a little less than zero), so there could be an overarching group ethic that would prevent this from happening.
