Longboard sent me a message he wanted to share with you all, since you're his drinkin' buddies.
I've been absent but do have the new domain bookmarked.Leaving for FL tomorrow for one week, and probably won't be participating but will read when possible.Been having serious health problems. I mentioned in the forum last month that a pinched nerve in my neck was bothering me, that was just my own diagnosis.By mid January I developed numbness in my arm, and a week later I lost muscle strength and control in it. Work became a challenge, and I could no longer do 2 dumbell reps where I used to do 2o. Obviously time to see the doc...I assumed a bulged cervicle disk and was possibly in need of surgery at that stage of nerve involvement.MRI and X-rays backed that up, but I was shocked (as well as were my Dr. buddies) that my entire cervical spine is riddled with arthritis, degenerated disks, nerve impingements, stenosis, spondylosis, you name it, at EVERY level.Monday they had me schedule with a neurosurgeon to stop the nerve death ASAP, but thank god Tuesday the EMG showed mechanical nerve pinch w/o loss of blood supply , so for now I am on conservative treatment of PT and NSAIDS.I'm cleared for FL, but no surfing, skating, running, etc. Walking is allowed, but I have to be careful with computer use!I will BFRun again, I have seen four MD's already, and once I recover I have a physiatrist (MD physical medicine specialist) in mind that is a runner, believes it's the only way to get a decent cardio workout, and is aware that I have been successful w/ barefoot running. He's my age and is also a professor at a medical school, so once I heal and return to running with his blessing I will be sure to add him to the list!Hope you're recovering from the neuroma surgeries, as you well know getting old sucks!Fell free to share my current predicament with any one you care to in the BRS, I'm just still too bummed out by the whole thing to want to write about it myself. Besides, I'm just getting over the shock of thinking emergency spinal surgery was eminant!Be back soon,AlanStaying fit DOES work though......I had no idea my cervical spine was a wreck because staying in shape masked the symptoms all these years.
