Runner passes through Missouri on epic shoeless adventure

Any way you look at them, Jake Brown's feet are wicked tough.
Shoeless since departing Huntington Beach, California, in early March, Brown has run eastward across mountains, through deserts, on sandy trails and along concrete interstates.
Against the relentless pounding — sometimes 40 miles a day or more — the soles of his feet have become thick, hardened calluses. They've deflected broken glass and sharp stones and turned deep brown from constant exposure to the sun.
On Tuesday we caught up with Brown, 27, in Carthage on his way to Springfield Wednesday, where he is more than halfway through his "Bare Sole Project" — running barefoot from California to New York to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund to help injured veterans.
