I ran in a big race Thursday morning. 8500+ people. 5 miler called the Boulevard Bolt. Best I could tell I was the only barefoot runner. There was a light dusting of VFF's and other minimalist shoes. It was a cold start (38) but set to warm up quickly. The road had just been repaved a couple of months ago. It was just too perfect of a set up to even think about shoes. I was expecting a few more of us to take advantage of it but no, it was just me all alone. Can I get some violin music?
I did run a good race for me in spite of a very slow first mile. A man near me called out 12 minutes when we past the marker. Way too many walkers lined up near the start line and maybe 1000 people ahead of me before I got to the line. I still managed to get an average pace of just under 9 minutes.
