Lol! I don't wanna spend my runs looking down.
It's like riding a motorcycle - you continually scan zones at different distances (2, 4 and 12 seconds) in front of you so you can recognize and avoid anything you don't want to run into (or step on in this case). It takes a little practice, but after a while it'll become second nature to be looking well ahead of you (and around you) but still scanning closer distances for smaller obstacles like sticks and rocks.Lol!
