Barefoot is original; Barefoot is green

Did Pheidippides run in shoes? Well, to get an answer, you need to go to Athens. Retrace the original route the warrior - messenger ran - from Marathon to Athens. A smarter way is to enroll for the Athens Classic Marathon.2500 years later, you can still witness this rock carving of Pheidippides, en-route the modern Athens Classic Marathon.

Take a closer look. Pheidippides had run barefoot! A marathon can be a full, half or ultra. But barefoot it needs to be, if it is Pheidippides you want to imitate .

This is the logic behind the new logo of 'Barefoot Runners of India' - www.barefootrunnersindia.org. The red figure is an inspiration from the statue of Pheidippides.Red signifies the vigour and vitality of a marathon run. Green reflects environmental concern.the

Descend to the green bare foot. It is left foot, the side the heart lies. Run with a heart throbbing for the environment. Every time you change shoes, you dump a non-biodegradable pair in the courtyard. That should be once every 6 months, as per advice of Nike et al. If even a hundredth of the world runs, Mother Earth will hold 35 million pairs of discarded shoes. It will double in 180 days; triple in 360 days….

Barefoot is clean. Barefoot is green.

Barefoot runners of India Foundation had organised the first ever Barefoot Half Marathon in Navi Mumbai, near Bombay in western India on 12th December, 2010. 306 runners took part and the race found its way into the Guinness World Records as the "Largest Barefoot Race". The second edition will be held on 6th November, 2011. We expect a minimum 1000 barefoot runners to participate.

Barefoot hiking and running also causes less noise and ground erosion. It does not make money for the shoe industry so will always be suppressed.
