Hi all,

I don't know if this particular presentation by Dr. Irene Davis (Harvard Medical Center) has been posted yet. It's a great talk she did at Spaulding Rehabilitaion Hospital on 18 Feb. There's some spectacular scientific data on various topics relating to running, both shod and barefoot. This is definitely one of the best talks I've seen on the subject. The presentation is split up into four parts:

Video one: heel striking, midfoot striking, forefoot striking, tibial g-forces, stride turnover and injury rate, shoes and their tendencies to increase pronation, etc.

Video 2: Cushioning in shoes and the related stiffness in joints, landing impacts based on hardness of surface, price of shoes/ related injury rates, plantar faciitis and foot strength, why do podiatrists treat the feet the way they do?

Video 3: How humans are structured to run, running injury distribution and rates, case studies, "If we were meant to run, why do we get injured doing it?"

Video 4: Question/Answer

Just thought I'd share in case folks hadn't seen it.

Good one Blue.Never seen it

Good one Blue.

Never seen it before. She goes over some of the science and her own change in thinking as she discovered the true nature of the foot.

Good stuff

Gold mine.  Stomper, can we

Gold mine. Stomper, can we add this to the Library, pretty please?

Thank you, Stomper!

Thank you, Stomper!

Great presentation. I think

Great presentation. I think her style of presentation will definitely have more of an impact on shod runners than if she had been pushing 100% barefoot. While I feel that running barefoot definitely teaches you to run better with a shorter learning curve there are definitely times when I cant. 85+ degree days on asphault is a bad thing for me, due to hot spots and blisters, as is crush n run gravel (though I'm getting better there).
