Split skin

Update: Thanks for all the advice. It actually healed really quickly, it only took 2 days before I could pretty much run on it again (although I'm waiting another couple of days just to be sure). After only a single day I went running with a bandaid + some tape on that foot. So I'll continue with the tape method until I feel like it's 100% healed.

Hi everybody,

The other day I had a small tear or split in my skin, I guess it was caused by bad running form or something. Anyway here is the picture of that one.

Today I went out again. I thought it was healed enough that I could go again. Also it sounds weird but I put super glue on it (I'd heard of people doing that for cuts). However, towards the half-way point I got a horrible burning sensation on my whole left foot. At the time I just thought it was a reaction to the cold or the super glue or something. I didn't really think much I just kind of kept going and kept listening to my music and just sort of went with it. I did make a choice to go the short way home instead of the whole route, which I'm very glad of now that it's over and I'm back home.

It got worse until I decided to stop and look at my foot, and it was much worse and the skin had split itself open even more. After that I decided to walk the rest of the way home. The strange thing is, it didn't feel anything like what it looks like. It feels like my whole foot is sort of numb and burning at the same time. If I had known what was happening I probably would have walked home at the half-way point.

Here is a picture I took just a minute ago after getting home.

So my question is, does anybody have any advice for this? I'm just assuming the answer will be let it dry out and rest and I shouldn't go running for a while. I just thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks in advance.

Yowzers! Hope it heals quickly!

There's a cream I use for cracking on my heels called NS-8, but that's available in Australia, so it won't help you. The main ingredient is urea though, so I guess there's an easy way to get a cheap substitute. :)

That looks like a cut from something to me. I get cuts like that occasionally from glass and thorns. I have one now. Very rare to have pain - unless something is embedded and even then the pain is localized. For me - I treat with Hydrogen Peroxide to clear debris out of the wound. I put duct tape over the cut - a double layer - and keep running. Has always cleared up in a couple of days. An antibiotic cream will clear out any infection. If the pain persists - see the doc. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all. (select as appropriate!)

looks like you have fungus on your feet. all the white and cracking may be from that. as Larry suggested there is a cheap way to heal your feet. i've heard of soaking your feet in urine to cure fungus' and so i'm trying it. i have really dry feet and now a deep crack in my heel. within 3 days they've softened up. i soak for a few minutes then rinse and slather with coconut oil. the crack was so deep there was blood coming out and it felt like i had a rock in my shoe. impossible since i don't wear shoes.

yeah, let that heal before you run bf again.

I am going to a doctor tomorrow for a cholesterol test. They called it a "wellness test" or something like that. Maybe I could get them to look at my foot fungus or test my foot for fungus?

I guess I can google for soaking feet in urine for fungus. I wonder how long I need to do this for. Another concern would be, what if I don't have enough urine at one time? I guess I can drink a lot of water and some coffee.

Not fungus, just dry skin. Your feet look like my hands. Cold, dry conditions make fissures open up like that on my hands. Any type of moisturizers seem like a waste of money and make them itch, so I just deal with some pain and they heal up after a few days.
I did decide to try out the coconut oil with socks. The next morning, certain parts of my feet had a bit of a weird burning sensation. I did it again just a while ago and felt the same sensation. I may give it another try at some point, but for now I'll see how my feet do on their own. Thanks for the info.

dry cracked skin is supposed to be a sign of under active thyroid. i know i'm working on mine. as far as google? just do it. nothing to it. just a bit stinky of course. i still say it looks like fungus.

haha!

i have tried using mouth wash as i heard or read that it works for athletes' foot. i didn't see any difference and what i'm doing now is working great and fast.

i've also read using raw apple cider vinegar will work. i haven't tried that as it isn't real cheap and i imagine will leave you smelling a bit long than using YOUR RIA.

Once again, it's a skin cream that contains urea that makes all the difference:

Oh okay i may try the gold bond and see how that works.

Edit: I got the gold bond and I double checked and it says it has the special ingredient. It's the regular gold bond in the pump bottle thing. Here is a small pic:

I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the advice.

I have had problems with the thick skin on the back of the heel cracking, It is quite painful. it happens every fall when the humidity in the house gets down around 25%.
I solved the problem by using a callous removing rasp and sand board to remove the stiff thick skin around the crack. Then I use a product called "Cracked Heel" by Blue Goo Products, it is Emu oil with other skin softeners (no pee). I have found this works quickly. I put a tiny amount on my heel each night and wear a sock to bed.
I do have a urea injection tank in my new Diesel Chevrolet Cruze, it is supposed to keep the exhaust system clean. My running friends have offered to help fill the tank.

I had to google search the urea tank thing. I just could not believe it. (-:
