Weekend wrap: Saturday - kicked off the morning with the local running club. Nice chatty run for most of the way, and then I found myself with one of the quicker runners in the group. He decided to try and catch a kid who was out in front of us and picked up the pace. After a couple hundred metres at under 4 min/km pace I remembered two things. 1) I had promised myself I was going to take it easy and look after my sore ankle, and 2) I have no business trying to run with people who can wipe the floor with me without even trying. I pulled the pin and ambled to the finish. The surf forecast was poor, but the reality was much, much better, so I raced home to get my board so I could sneak out for a surf before my daughter woke up. It was my lucky day - Australia were playing (well, losing to) Chile in the world cup at the time, so the usual crowded bedlam of main beach turned out to be a nice cruisey surf with a few others. Freezing feet by the end of it. Hello winter.
Sunday - I decided to give my regular 11km route a go and test out the ankle. It was quite stiff to start with and I almost bailed, but I took it easy and ran to the point where it loosened up. Big headwind on the way out, and some wind assisted speediness on the way back. I'm not sure if running was the best idea, but I'll rest now for a couple of days and hope it keeps improving.
