Someone should start this thread by now. It's already Tuesday. Don't you have more to say than I do???? Get to it people! Spring is in the air! Sunday I did my neighborhood 4ish, Monday, maybe 3.5 or so, socks and sandals in wet blowing snow. Weights Monday night. Hike with kids Sunday night...

    Need some new sandals

Any suggestions? I'm a little jaded with wokova feather unshoes; the last pair broke within a short period of time, though they were quite comfortable. Generally, I like the thinner, flexible soles for most surfaces and trails. Rocky trails would be rare (though there is one near where I live)...

    frost nip on my face?

Or am I just delicate? I went for a relaxed walk/run yesterday evening. I was fighting a bit of a virus (had a fever), but felt really good outside, toasty warm. The only thing that got cold was my face, and until the end didn't really bother me. Last night and this morning the skin on my face...

Shoe goo for repair when soles separate? MOC3s

My moc3s (soft star) are beginning to separate, upper from sole, also, the main seam in the leather near the toe. I can't blame them, for they have accumulated many a (dry and) wet and snowy mile. Any advice? Will shoe goo stay on if I continue to let them get wet? Anyone else done this?

Mileage Reporting 38th week of 2014

I feel so controversial for starting this, but controversy is where I like to live, baby. You see, my first run of the week was Sunday morning, where I like to begin my week, because it's good. Beautiful weather. Sunny, 50sF, a light wind. Just a few trees starting to change colors. Took pics...

    WOW "traditional" running shoes $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Just a brief "whoa" I hope to share with you. After, what, 2.5 years of being "minimal" in my shoes or pure barefoot, I've grown to whine about how expensive my shoes can be ($35 for some sandals, on the order of $60 for my unshoes, up to $90 for soft stars, etc, you know the drill, and I just...

Mileage Reporting 33rd week of 2013

afternoon : 1hr ~45 min in the pool, about the first 45 min of which was spent getting kids to remember how to do laps, getting my son to learn bilateral breathing, doing "quick" laps in between to stay warm. evening: 8 mi bike ride before dinner I have good intentions about starting my super...

    open water swim technique

So I've been dabbling with swimming in open water for the first time (just learned to deal with the pool this spring). In some ways, it is nice: no walls, sunshine, no limited hours at a lap swim pool, no crabbies to growl when trying to share a lane. In other ways, I have found it challenging...

Mileage Reporting 15th week of 2013

1.5 mi with kids, then we split off at the driveway, and I did 6, then came back and still had a bit left over, so went around the 1.5 mi block again, for a total of close to 9 mi., thereby giving me the weekend long run i missed out on yesterday.

are side stitches for real? and why? form?

My kids complain about them A LOT; sometimes I believe them, sometimes I don't (how could you get a side stitch after 15 seconds of movement??? and I see them run all over the place and never complain, but the second it's time to run with mom.....) but maybe I'm just mean............ Anyways...

winter running with tabi socks and sandals?

As the temps begin to dip down into the teens in my area, my thin injinji socks (granted, they are the thinnest weight they make, but my thicker ones don't fit) aren't doing as well in the toes with my sandals, though the rest of my foot is still ok down to the low 20s. I was thinking the tabi...

Mileage Reporting 49th week of 2012

3.5 yesterday afternoon, bare feet, wet pavement, lots of debris in the road, my soles felt tender so it was slow. about 1.5 hrs treadign water and swimmign/playing around with my kids in the pool. I never count this as exercise, but I made an effort to be moving in the water the whole time, and...

    Calling all Ball-o-philes

I used to think this was another stupid exercise trend. It probably is, but what fun! Check her out: Who else plays with their (stability) balls? What's your fav ball and/or balance exercise? (keep it clean!)

Mileage Reporting 46th Week of 2012

And there are only 52 weeks total, to my understanding? Time waits for no man................... so i did around 6.5 windy windy windy windy warm miles on a route that i don't think i've done since last Christmas day. I was in my sandals, partially on unpleasant dirt with big rocky gravel on...

Mileage Reporting 42nd week of 2012

6.5 painful miles. Worst run in at least the last 20. Not sure why, my whole body was cramping up. Blech. Cut it short b/c I thought about 8-9 miles, but no way. Shoulda quit at 4. Or 3. It's a shame, as the trail was great and I had taken the extra time to drive there in the afternoon; dark...
