Thanks, Gent!  I'm going to

Thanks, Gent! I'm going to borrow this for a newsletter I'm working on for my shoddie running club. They'll love it!

I thought the same thing. I

I thought the same thing. I ditched my ipod, water bottle and shoes when possible. I'd like to ditch my garmin and hrm but i'm still kinda stuck on keeping track of the details. My metronome is on the verge of going bye bye.

I totally agree, JT.  That's

I totally agree, JT. That's a huge reason why I don't use my Garmin anymore. I know exactly where I'm going, how far it is, and basically, how long it will take me to get there.

I know others use theirs as training tools. It's all good.

I think the tech might be a phase of running. After all, how many times do you need to measure the same run? You get the feel of it all pretty well after a while and can just focus on the good stuff. Imhohoho.

When I formally ventured into

When I formally ventured into changing my form and, along with that, getting my cadence up - I worked with a coach. I told him I used an iPod with a metronome beat and he paused and said "Put the iPod away. Yes - you need to count to make sure you're in the right range - but you'll learn how it feels." Sure enough - every now-and-then I'll do a check when I'm out on a run. Now that I know what 180 bpm feels like I'm almost always exactly at that pace.

It has reached the point for me where listening to music is too distracting. (Unless I'm forced to run on a treadmill.) The sound of my feet and breathing work me into rhythm/trance. (Well - it's not really breathing. Panting or gasping or hyperventilating might be a better words. LOL)

Yowza to you too, JT.  And

Yowza to you too, JT. And thank you for being here.

I think there is something to what you're saying, Jim. Perhaps because we do run barefoot, we are relying on the sense of touch and therefore any other senses we may need in combination get drowned out (hearing) which could affect our ability to decipher those important signals that come from our feet. We don't run on top of pillows (which already deaden the run enough as it is), so we better be in tune with our environment, not our music. Music is a distraction when running barefoot. Music is a distraction when running period and is being proven as such.

I've never heard anyone say it so clearly, couldn't agree more. Thanks!

not neccessarily, its just a discussion that gets brought up alot. There are enough threads on music to listen to while running that there are alot of fellow music listeners around here.

I've ditched everything

I've ditched everything except the ipod. I love my lunchtime runs at work, and the music pumps me up when I'm not really motivated. Oh, I love the cartoon too!
