Mileage Reporting Week 31 of 1025

Still on the recovery trail. Today's lunch time run - 40 seconds running and 50 seconds walking for 25 minutes around a grassy park. 4.6km - the longest distance I've done for quite a while. Still feeling good, no soreness. I'm trying to run lightly and without effort, but I'm finding that my new 'no effort' pace is now a bit faster than it was before - I was positively scorching around the track. I guess it must be down to some of the strengthening stuff that my physio has been putting me through as part of the rehab. It makes me nervous though, so I'm going to try to back things off a little next time.

5 mile run at 4:45 am 84 deg. f., 62%Rh
Worked on relaxing.
I heard a few cool owl sounds and saw some rabbits. (always makes for a nice one)

Sunday - 20 miles shod. Moderate effort. Finished in 3 hours 1 minute which is fast for me considering my long runs are usually at altitude and on technical trails. Fueling and hydration were perfect.

Tuesday - 5 miles sandals in the morning. Afternoon, 4 miles shod in the heat to pick up a tractor at the John Deere dealership.

Just can't seem to get any barefoot miles lately. Too many excuses.

Went for a barefoot run this morning on the newly resurfaced asphalt in our neighborhood. The surface is now nearly free of the many loose tiny rocks that were just big enough to occasionally make you say to yourself "Ok that one kinda hurt" so its kinda nice especially at 4:30 am when there is very little light to spot such obstacles.

I have changed my running schedule to an early morning run before work and it has proven to work out for the better. Except for the occasional mid afternoon dozing at work. Just kidding! Still building up my distance since apparently injuring may right ankle some earlier this spring.

The ankle seems to be nearly fully recovered and since the overnight low was in the upper 50's I decided to increase my distance some and had a nice 5.7 mile run. The temps were great which seemed refreshing after many mornings with temps in the low to mid 70's. The humidity was down this morning which was also a BIG help.

While running I remembered that we were nearly out of milk so I made a dash about .25 miles down the road to the local convenience store. It is not a great place to run to as the convenience store is at a very busy intersection with no sidewalk leading up to it so down the road I ran at quite a swift pace. After reaching the store I wondered about going in barefoot. After scoping the place out upon entering it seemed that the cashier was in the back of the store and soon I had grabbed a carton of milk and was waiting for them at the counter to pay. The cashier didn't even see my lack of foot wear and it was great shopping barefoot. The tile floor felt clean and cool. If only stores and public places would allow barefoot shopping life would be great!

Ohh! I saw a nice falling meteorite this morning and also a satellite passing overhead as I walked home barefoot carrying the carton of milk. What a great start to the day!

Monday didn't feel like running - I always feel a bit off after my last nightshift :sour: but managed to get on the bike and log almost 28 miles with medium-hard effort, 16.8mph round trip.

Tuesday got up early for a long run 15.5 miles mostly in the 8 minute range. Hard to say for sure, my gps was very inaccurate on this run for some reason - I actually subtracted a whole mile off the workout that it added. My longest run this year so far.

Wednesday dropped my son off at his friends for a couple hours and went out on the bike. This time on the road (country roads). I was unfamiliar with the roads so was nice to explore new areas but unfortunately discovered several miles of gravel and lots of hills. Not to mention that it was full sun at 2PM 89ºF with heat index of 97º. Even ran into a closed road that added a few extra miles in detour. 34 miles, 14.3 mph average (didn't stop the timer on several short breaks) hard effort for most of the trip minus the gravel roads, drenched with sweat.

Monday - 10.3 miles barefoot. I am really enjoying establishing strength at these mid distances right now. It felt like a strong, but relaxed run.
Tuesday - 90 minute road bike ride with hubby on some major hills. I hate going downhill on the hike. Swam 20 minutes later in the day
Wednesday - 8.0 miles in Luna's due to a bruise. Still a very fun run. Swam 20 minutes in the evening after a day taking care of sick granddaughter because her mom was dealing with her dad's hospitalization, but everyone went home last night.
I believe today is Thursday, and I am riding the spin bike for 60 minutes. I will be on my feet all day freezing corn and broccoli. Still think I can swim this evening.

Left the house again at 4:30 am taking advatage of this short spell of cool nights. Planned on running somewhere close to 6 miles but had to cut it short at 4 miles cuz me feet are not used to the old rough asphalt road around the lake loop. Anyway I still had a good run.

May run on the smoother bike trails tomorrow to give my feet a break or just stay in my neighborhood and run on only the new smooth asphalt areas. Might do alot of barefoot walking on the area around the lake this weekend to build up my endurance for the lake loop of my running route.

Another early run this morning except the humidity was back up making things a little sticky.
Ran 5 miles in the neighborhood on the new asphalt then walked for three miles around the lake on older rough asphalt for some foot conditioning.
Full moon sure was bright making the roads easy to see.
The run was great but cant wait for the cool fall mornings.

Sunday. It was overcast and 63 in Oakland this morning. A short run got extended as I neared the other end of one of the roughly three sides of the lake; I decided to go for it and run all the way around. There were other people out but fewer than on a typical weekday morning when people would be headed to work. The far side near Kaiser Center has a stretch where the path has very rough asphalt which I resolved to take on. My steps had to be more careful and somewhat light. On the Grand Avenue side, I veered on to the service road running past Fairyland and the Bonsai Garden. The asphalt on this route was also rough but I made my way through. The rest of the run was on city pavement so it was pretty easy though I added more distance by taking a few extra turns, here and there. By the time I got home, the iPhone logged 5.5 miles. My feet and legs felt pretty good. I hope they stay that way and maybe I can run tomorrow too. Breakfast was extra tasty this morning!

Well even with my 15.5 mi long run I still only got 19.2 miles :( I just didn't feel like running after the long days in the office sitting in the chair. A couple of those days I got the bike out so at least did something. Actually might be my highest bike week ever at 88.3 miles :)

That blue moon was pretty amazing the other day, almost had to put the sunglasses on my way to work at 5am! Would have been nice to go for an early morning run. One of these days I am going to try to get to bed soon after I get home and see if i can manage to get up early enough for a morning run. I just haven't ever been able to get myself out of bed any earlier than the 4am that I already do, and even that I usually don't get enough sleep as it is.
