New here and new to this..

Welcome to this crazy place.

I've got really nothing much to add but to the chorus of those urging to be careful and conservative as you transition. I'm sort of in that process myself right now, although it's been some years since I've done any serious mileage running, but now I'm coming back to running and choosing to do so barefoot. Even so, even somewhat lacking running legs, it takes some mental toughness not to keep yourself running barefoot or minimalist, but to stop yourself from doing too much, too soon.

It's not just limited to running, but as with most things barefoot people have a tendency to overdo. I'm old enough to remember when a majority of entering freshpersons at certain U.S. universities (well, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor at least which would explain my avoidance of the term "freshmen") discovered at orientation that not only was going barefoot o.k. but that it was also fun, sensual, pleasurable, healthy and enjoyable as well.
By the end of day two walking the campus the blistered outnumbered the living leathered, and when classes finally started barefoot students although present in every class were definitely relegated to minority status.
Couple that with the the knowledge that people either exercise or they don't, and those that do also tend to overdo, and we have a train wreck in the making. Easy does it......................with any increasing intensity in a workout regimen, and the same holds true for even the most casual barefoot trail or street strolling.

Welcome Line!

Dama, pronounce her name in Spanish and you'll be just right, I think.

Line, don't forget that there are bicycles and swimming to burn off excess energy. You will be like an underexercised horse, champing at the bit for a long time otherwise. I did my transition in the opposite direction, from BF to VFFs, so I can't contribute much to your coaching.

I do like the look of the Spyridons, though. I think my next pair will be those. However, I have put amost 2000 miles on my first pair of Bikilas which I'm still using, and have a new pair waiting as backup, so it will be a while. You might check out Bikilas as an alternate pair for yourself. They can be found very inexpensively on EBay these days. The Bikila style is somewhat lighter than the Spyridon, and you might like them for some of your less rocky trails. I have run very technical trails in them without regrets, but you shouldn't be worrying about that sort of thing too much quite yet.

Much joy to you in your new world of running!

Thank you for your advice :)
I actually considered the bikilas a lot but went for the spyridons because of the grip and the bit extra protection. I will get a pair of the bikilas some time I'm sure. I like the design and the soles and all about them and as you say.. when I know there won't be so many rocks... :) And just for fun to have some to change between :D

I'm much better with Spanish or Hungarian, but I like to be able to speak politely enough to at east say hello and thanks in as many other languages as I can manage. I've never seen the Swedish spelling, though. Tak ver alles.

Wow Line, you're in amazing shape!!! Thats so cool you are into body building! I dabbled back in the day, no competitions or anything, but trained like crazy for several years until I had knee surgery.

I also saw you have a big dog! Me too :) I have a 150 pound Newfoundland named Osa (thats spanish for "bear"). I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of your blog.

Thank you!
My dog's not as big as your's. It's a mix between a golden retriever mixed with shepherd (we think). He's name is Poseidon, and we call him Posse :)

Oh, my goodness! You look great!

I just can't even begin to imagine what kind of hard work and discipline it takes to get your body built up and stripped down to competition state. Running is much easier, I think.

:) Hard work and disciplin, yes, but also something I can't live without, so I don't see it as such. I see it as my own quality time with myself and with running it's the same for me. It's where I get to enjoy what my body is capable of. ;)
