Winter Challenge - 2012

Dutchie, again I am misunderstood about the shoe comment. People were complaining about shoe pain when switching back to shoes for winter. What I am saying is if the shoe hurts, it's not the right shoe for you. You should not have pain from wearing a shoe. Seems people think all shoes hurt when really it's only all ill-fitting shoes hurt. Now, with that being said, you definitely have to adjust your running form and relearn to run in shoes which can take a little while.

Nick, I completely agree with you. My shoes are not the problem, if shoes are tools, then the mechanic (me) is having problems using those tools. :)

If I am up to it, I will be coming down. I am still shooting to get one full in locally before then, using that one as a training run. If I can not get up to full distance by that time I will throttle back and do a halve. They have one of those at the the same time right? I will come down with halve my clan, they can go shopping in Albertville while I am occupied. :D
Cool. They don't have a half, but they offer a 10-miler: https://www.tcmevents.org/events/medtronic_twin_cities_marathon_weekend/10_mile/
There's a half-marathon just before Halloween, the Monster Dash: http://www.monsterdash.org/
Maybe Mike can lend you his loin cloth for that one.
There's another half in early August: http://www.minnesotahalfmarathon.com/page/show/451046-pick-your-passion
And a couple late spring.

Done, signed up for the half in early August. Since your reduced training for the full should have you ready for this one ;) . Now all we have to do is talk Dama into this one. :D Looking forward to this one already now.

Fantastic! Just signed up myself, and now feel strangely nervous - my first race since 9th grade! It falls three days before my birthday, so it'll be a nice present to myself. Thanks for talking me into this Dutchie--look forward to meeting you! Let me know if there's anything I can do to facilitate your stay here or help with logistics. You'll be staying up in Albertville, right?
And yes, sorry about the highjack Mr. YOW, although it feels good--it's been a while since I participated in a proper highjack.

Just to keep this on a winter based discussion, did 3 miles in -16C in my evos. Felt labored the entire run, I really really I seriously need to learn how to use those shoes, I mean tools again. Now that's out of the way, I will in all likely hood stay in Albertsville, as for any thing else, I am not sure yet. It sounds like a couple of my daughters are now thinking about running as well. One in the 5k and my other one thinks she might be ready for her first half. But a upcoming birthday will surely call for a beer or 2. :D See, another barefoot running thread with beer mentioned, it has got to be a trend or something.

So if I pie out of the Twin Cities Marathon next year, are you still coming down or will you find one around your parts?

Ooo Ooo, don't pie out, don't pie out. I want to run Twin Cities too, it will be like a Manitoba/ Minnesota Barefooting Meetup, come on it will be fun. I had a blast running with a few of you hardy Minnesotan's at MedCity in Rochester this year. You should of seen when I was standing next to Christian (Saypay45), he is like a giant compared to little ole me :)

Ahh crap, the half falls on Death Race Weekend, I will be running a mountain or three, damn it. We should find another one, maybe Twin Cities in October, hint, hint.

Bob, also signed up for the Dirty Donkey Mud Run as well for 2013. 3 of my kids will be doing that one as well. Again I will put the word WINTER in here so that YOW will not get to mad about the hijacking today. :) I am not ruling out Twin Cities but figured on a doable alternative, there is a lot that can go wrong with marathon training. Also the ladies in the house counted on the shopping before school thing.

Funny, I still haven't met Christian. I would consider the Twin Cities Marathon if I hadn't been experiencing this knee stuff lately. But if I've learned one thing, it's that I have to build up my mileage slowly, like add just one mile per month to my max run. So if I can do 7-8 miles in December, with no further MCL or ITBS issues (I just love runner's initialisms), then that puts me on pace for a half in 2013, but a full marathon won't be practicable until 2014.

There is the Monster Dash half Mary at the end of October. It's a nice course along the river and Summit Avenue. We'd have to sign up by December 15th though.

Here's a list of other half Mary's in Minnesota:

This one out on Lake Minnetonka looks enticing--beautiful course--but I'm not sure I'll be ready by April:

It would be great to meet you! Let me know what you think, but maybe we should move this conversation to PMs? I'll be stepping out in a minute for a Chinese lunch with family, will check in later . . .

Let me check my schedule and plans, I definitely would like to run something in Minn next year.

been MIA a long time this year, but our temps have dropped and I'm throwing down the gauntlet once again! good to see such a huge crowd this year!
Nice to see another Michigander.....gotta keep myself motivated this winter!
Its far too easy to fade away until spring with the sun setting so early...

Troy, glad to see you back in the fold, I was getting a little worried. Not really, I know how to track you down if I really need too. ;)

Welcome Back. :D
