Mileage reporting 18th week?

Sounds like Mike was using a live subject?

Made it to Emerald Beach near Coffs Harbour for our holiday, so this morning I took off along the coast for a 10km out and back over a couple of headlands and along Moonee Beach. Great way to explore. Some beach, some cobblestone paths, and a small stretch of killer gravel. Mostly beach though, but the sand was a bit soft and it was a bit of a struggle. I was feeling a bit flat, but then I saw a dead dolphin washed up on the shore and figured things could be worse.

Today we went to a chocolate factory and loaded up, and this afternoon I took the wife and kiddie along my morning path to climb the headlands and collect some rocks on the beach. She's finally getting to the age where I only have to carry her half the way (and I could probably make her walk even further if I wasn't a big softie).

Tomorrow I'll head up the coast in the other direction and do some scouting for a beach for shell collecting. I think we're going to a dolphin park tomorrow, should be fun.

Sunday, recovery from night out with my childhood friends/dirtballs. Plus it was pouring rain.

Monday, just run commutes. It had just rained in the morning (42F/28F wc), and was raining in the afternoon, when I commuted. Once back home, I added 20 pounds more to my squat for a new PR! After a week of doubt, and then reading a bit of Mark Rippetoe's book "Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training," I guess I've recommitted to the basic-lifts-with-a-focus-on-squats program in ST. I'm going to try a modification of one of Rippetoe's weekly routines. Something like

Monday: Squats, Bench/Dips, Arms
Wednesday: Deadlift, Press, Power Clean
Friday: Squats, Rows, Pulldowns.

My running pace has been picking up on it's own, and my gait feels pretty smooth and solid now (I probably look like a wounded water buffalo though), so there may be something to this approach. If nothing else, I like the simplicity of cutting out most of the assistance/secondary, bodybuilder-type exercises most of the time.

This morning skipped another 5K run. It's raining and 38F/25F windchill. I had brought my back-up Sockwas, but I wimped out and just ran straight to the office. That was about all my soles and toes were good for. End of April and I'm still getting in Winter Challenge qualifying runs. Jeez.

Monday! 15 miles. Felt pretty strong the first 13.6, but then was grateful to be able to slow down to my cool down pace. That problem spot on the ball of my left foot did split again around mile 14. argh!
Nice running Laura! Looks like you're on track for a great marathon debut.

About 30 minutes barefoot on the treadmill today during a 45 minute span. I only had a limited amount of time this morning and had lots of interruptions from the kids. Hopefully the guy I am waiting on to come work on the fridge will get here soon and fix it fast so that I might have time to get a double workout in today before I have to go run more errands. Sometimes life gets in the way of what I want/need to do for my health. :)

:barefoot: Monday - 1.73 miles - the tide was in too high for me to run along the beach so i ran barefoot along the golf course and pastures - the grass was cold and wet and i had to climb over a gate - good fun though and my feet did warm up as time went on :) A nice paddle in the sea afterwards to wash my feet

5 mile run at 5:00 am cool breeze, 64 deg. f..
Very nice
Great way to start the day!

Tuesday - 30 minutes of swimming in 5, 20, and 5 minute intervals. Legs tried to cramp some, but I let them hang loose a bit and it stopped. A solid hour of heavy duty weeding, plus carrying trays of plants and bags of groceries. Now am finishing up 45 minutes on spin bike with hubby. I should sleep well.

About 45 minutes of intervals in my monos chasing my boy up and down the block while he rode his new bike. Holy crap he is fast now on this new bike. I had to sprint a lot to keep up with him. Funny how life can take away workout time only to give it back in other family friendly forms. If I had to guess I probably would say at least two miles worth but probably more.

in physiology lab the teacher said to get the correct info on cardia output we had to put a catheter in a live subject. i offered up another students with big veins. no one was amused.

just walking around campus a lot and yoga today.

Day 2 at Emerald Beach. I started early and tried to take a few sunrise photos, but I don't think I got anything spectacular. After that I took to the beach and ran 10.5km in an out and back route, almost to the outskirts of Woolgoolga (try saying that 5 times quickly!) and back. Picked up a few shells along the way, and ended up running the last few kms with my hands full. I missed a path on one of the headlands and got lost for half a minute on the way back, which was a bit of a laugh.

Took the family to a dolphin park, but the little one was out of sorts and refused the dolphin and seal kisses. The show was pretty cool though. I got to feed and pat a dolphin.

The last day of April and winter is back in New York City! I ran the 5 miles to work in a light east wind with constant rain with a temperature of around 5C - tights, rain jacket, gloves and shoes were the order of the day.
A truly dreich day - but still an enjoyable run!

I was out in some rain too this morning. I've been very busy, but getting my runs in. Did a short 2.6 this morning to take me up to 107 miles for the month. My legs felt really good this morning, I was amazed at how fast I was running for the effort I was giving and the weather conditions of rain and wind and cold.

Very much felt like a runner this morning, that's how good the legs felt which surprised me considering I'm coming off my 2 biggest back-to-back weeks of running. Still plan to take a recovery week with this week's mileage and only do around 25 miles.

Tuesday - 50 mile trail run/hike. (34 shod, 16 sandals) My running has gone well lately and I was ready for a good test. This was a great test. Another Trans-Zion Trek (I completed one last October http://thebarefootrunners.org/threads/zion-traverse.12413/). This time I went East to West. Weather was great, almost too cold and windy, but that helped the hydration by not overheating. Last week when I had that tailwind help me out, well, on this run the last 14 miles it was right in my face. Got through it and no major problems. Tough trail conditions in spots with mud and dried mud hiker boot prints but still improved on my time from before (not too concerned about time, but I do like to show progress). 13.5 hours, sunrise to sunset in a beautiful place.

Sunday - It rained some so decided to get a little running in with the pollen washed out of the air...30 minutes
local trails.

Monday - yard work and cutting grass.

Tuesday - Local road run 1 hour 9 minutes after a thunderstorm storm passed thru, my regulatr route to Harbins
Park but added on 2 hills to the far end of the park...this will be my new regular road route. Walked some on the
hills when I felt like it to keep the effort easy.

Today - Upper body strength workout.
