Mileage reporting 10th week 2014

1.5 miles, return with frozen tail between legs.
(funny story. Saw the thermostat said 14F when I finally got my keister out of bed and got dressed for a run. For the temps we've been having lately, 14F and no wind is darn near balmy. I know how to dress for that, and even went a little overboard in the warmth. Planning on 2-3 times around my subdivision mile block (which would have made the run 2.5-3.5 miles total) , after one one revolution my ears were stinging, my feet were COLD even in my moc3s with socks, which have been great for these temps, my eyelashes were freezing over from the moisture in my breath, and my face was getting cold, even with a thin cloth over it. When it's 14 and still, I usually just wear a thin hat or a headband over my ears.
WOW, what a sissy, I thought. How could I feel so cold? I ran in the same clothes in slightly colder windier temps just a few days ago.
I bailed, got into the house, and saw the negative sign on the left of the 14. OH. Brrr)

a few ab exercises, then get kids ready.
then
lunch swim, an hour or so

I even read this to my husband. He guessed it part way through! Cold humor!

Monday - 30 minutes of swimming with the same 5-20-5 minute intervals, but on a faster speed this time. Was pleased with how I was able to keep my form and not feel like I was struggling, even though I was more tired by the end. :) Then, a quick lunch and 60 minutes on the spin bike while helping youngest with studies.

Tuesday - beautiful, sunny day, about 55°F. My feet are still fairly sensitive, but I REALLY wanted to run. I went an easy 6.5 miles around my relatively smooth pond loop. It still felt like kind of rough asphalt, even though it is usually very comfortable, but my feet never felt like they were being damaged, and they feel no different now than before the run, so I'm going to think positive thoughts about form and sole conditioning and hope for a longer run on Thursday. My troublesome knee feels even better than before the run!

About 4.36 miles today, with 4 repeats up a hill that were about 60s in duration each. Time to start waking up the fast-twitch fibers from hibernation and put some more hustle than shuffle in the running stride.

That higher sun in the sky makes a difference. We never got above 28 here today, but still a lot of melt where the sun got to shine. Go sun, go sun, go sun. Beat this polar vortex back to where it belongs and bring me spring.

Alrighty 5mile run at 4:45 am., 27 deg. f.
Our weather is all over the map. one day it 75 next day it snows, sleets, hails. next day its 15 deg. f tomorrow its back up to mid 50s?

Finally starting again. I've done very much walking but have been resting from running since my left food just didn't want to heal. There was this little nagging pain that didn't want to go away. So I actually did what I was supposed to and rested until it was completely gone (proud of that).
So after some days considering if it was time to start again I finally went for a super short 10 min run on the treadmill after my workout :D The thought being that it's easier to just do a little if it's on a treadmill when I've already been lifting weights for almost an hour.
I really had to force myself to stop. It felt so good and I could have gone on. But I didn't. I stopped the treadmill after those 10 minutes and it was a success.
Here's to a slow new start

Happy 9.25 miles around my pond loop! Damp and cool mmid 50's at first, but then the sun came out and I had to remove all but the most necessary layers. No one seemed shocked or perturbed at that amount of my old skin, I'm glad to say. My soles feel about 90% recovered from their intense experience on Saturday.

13.8km/8.6mi today, very nice weather, the coolness of Autumn is coming.

Second time I have someone warning me of glass on the road. Me being very nice and polite I thank them, but thought to myself something like 'don't worry, I'll see it, even with only one eye' :cyclops:

I will be working on a project in sunny Queensland over the coming weeks, hopefully I can clock some good runs over there !

3.5 easy miles or so. Can hardly wait for Saturday when it's going to warm up some and I'll be able to run in shorts again. I'm getting sick of the running tights, although they saved my butt this winter.

I miss long runs! Thanks for getting out there and enjoying one so I can live vicariously. Seems like you had perfect temps, too.

The older I get, the less I care. It's freeing, no? You are an inspiration.
:D

thursday: 2.5 am, around 5-6F, but still wind. Warmed up later in the day all the way to the 20s woot!
lunch: swim, a ton of short intervals, totaling about 1.5 hours. Kicking, alternating with pulling and freestyle where I was trying to control my breathing and do as few as possible in 50 yards. I think it's teaching me to be more efficient, since when I go back to a regular freestyle lap I am feeling the need to breathe way less often.

friday: maybe rest day, maybe short swim before some magic/variety/show I'm taking the kids to tonight.

I did 6 minutes on the treadmill after my workout. Felt the need to stop there actually. Something under the food felt weird.
This only doing minutes is very different from what I've otherwise done. But it's a good way to start slow I think. I like it. You can stop when you need to. It's not like that is somewhere out in the woods… :)
