The low turn-out over the last few years has made me realize that I am missing something crucial.

I see the "views" to my posts are always pretty big - so I know there are a lot of you out there that I am not accommodating.

I know this is in part because everything takes place in Portland.

So, I am going to generally throw out this question.

What do you want to see? What would it take to get you more involved? I may send out a specific survey. Meanwhile, tell me! Please! And when you tell me, please start with a little background about yourself. Thanks!

I signed up for this site a while ago, but have been totally inactive-- I live in Portland and would love to find some more experienced barefoot runners to run with, and coach me a little. I don't know if there are any groups that meet/run regularly, but I'd be interested to know more. It's been hard for me the last couple years to run regularly (work/baby) but I want to get out there more!

    Thanks for the input!

You actually just reminded me of a project I meant to work on a long time ago. I was going to find a way to put up some sort of calendar on here, for just Oregon, maybe just an excel spreadsheet, that listed out the information for those who would like running partners. So, for example, I would put up people's names, city, contact info., along with how long, fast, and type of running they are looking to do, etc., as well as the times they are available to run -their experience level, etc. That way, people could contact people with similar running goals/interests/capabilities, etc. and whether they are interested in a mentoring situation.

I will look into how to do this.

Also, if all of the members could add themselves to the Member Map (http://thebarefootrunners.org/memberMap/) that would help others to find running partners in their area.

Yeah, I've heard of that group. I work, so Mondays at noon are hard. I'll see about getting out there this summer. Thanks.

Ya I find minimalist Monday to be a hard sell for probably a lot of folks due to the time and day it's scheduled on. Could reach a whole lot more folks if it was something held on weekends.

I have talked to Sanatan about doing an evening class, I will ask him again.

I have asked him about doing an evening class, at least, but he was unable to at the time. I will ask him about it again, or maybe at least rotating the times, days. It is taught as a series, but each class is still useful by itself.

Also, I have thought about the more experienced barefoot runners in our "active" group to do our own classes. The problem is...I am certain we would not ALL instruct the same. And a couple of us, who shall remain nameless, would probably get into some major head-butting over how to instruct proper technique, and one, or both, might end up down a ravine... :D

    Here is Sanatan's email address.

    sanatan@optimalresultspt.com

If you ask to get on his newsletter email list, you will find useful information, videos and stuff, in his newsletters for those who are not able to go. He does a follow-up of his classes in these, as well.

Who's this nameless chap you keep referring to? Hopefully not me, I'm not really a barefooter anymore (more a minimalist sandal runner) and I'm really not that knowledgeable. :)

Mike -if he is willing. I'm also asked Dan, who declined. :( And I have asked Todd Mros, and another Mike that you don't know. I also plan to have guest speakers. These lessons will have to be planned as a group, however.

I have been in school and very busy for the last two years, along with dealing with various injuries. Now that school is about done and I am healthy again, I would like to meet with people more often. I would be interested in an evening running group that meets once or twice a week to run (preferably trails) together. I also remember (and miss) the hikes we did fairly often last year and the year before.

I am willing to help newbies get started, and given my history of injury, I would try to encourage them not to progress too quickly and become injured in the process, as well as giving them home exercises and drills I've learned along the way (that's a lot of what we're here for, right?)

That said, I am not on this site very often. It isn't as user friendly as the PBFR facebook page. For me, it is one more website to have to check every day, or one more set of notifications clogging up my email, and I prefer to be online as little as possible. I get the idea that the use of the PBFR page is shunned for some reason, but it really is much more convenient for me. I know that there is an "official" Oregon BFR page on facebook, but the only person who can post is the president, so it isn't a forum where a bunch of individual runners can organize group runs with their friends.

    Jen,
Thanks so much for this line of questioning and all of your current and past efforts to connect folks. You are a hub and your energy has changed peoples lives.
The combined knowledge and experience of this chapter is so rich, I hope folks do put together clinics to share....

On the Natural Running For All (formerly Minimalist Mondays) front: These clinic will be on Mondays at Noon for this next series which runs until The Tabor2Crest relay on July 20th (which anyone is welcome to join at no cost, just let me know if you are curious). This works better for me and Ray and our families, but I know not so good for folks outside the downtown area. Sorry.

Previous iterations of all the clinics are online and can be found on YouTube under the Rays CorrectToes channel. Just like running barefoot, though, experience is much more rich than watching on a screen. But, combined, with the recaps, are hopefully a helpful resource for those 'following along at home'.

If you want on the NR4A email list, shoot me a message and I can add you to get the weekly recaps and updates.

Also one fun thing to do is to track your 'Barefoot Blocks' run or walked each week during the program. Just cut and past this link to play along.

BTW - this is still at the top of my projects list but I have had over a week of computer problems, hard drive crashing, sucky new computers, etc. That is all finally resolved and I will be working on this, this week.
