from experience, do not attempt to use a bead necklace wrapped 2x around your ankle. You just might have it break and have beads fly all over the place causing you to backtrack in order to figure out where your timing chip went.

I use duct tape, but a double

I use duct tape, but a double layers, sticky sides (and the chip) inside. I think the last half marathon, Dexter-Ann Arbor, my time didn't register, but there were some overall glitches too. For my two marathons, Detroit and Pinkney Trail, it worked fine.
