Weekend wrap: Saturday - kicked off the morning with the local running club. Nice chatty run for most of the way, and then I found myself with one of the quicker runners in the group. He decided to try and catch a kid who was out in front of us and picked up the pace. After a couple hundred metres at under 4 min/km pace I remembered two things. 1) I had promised myself I was going to take it easy and look after my sore ankle, and 2) I have no business trying to run with people who can wipe the floor with me without even trying. I pulled the pin and ambled to the finish. The surf forecast was poor, but the reality was much, much better, so I raced home to get my board so I could sneak out for a surf before my daughter woke up. It was my lucky day - Australia were playing (well, losing to) Chile in the world cup at the time, so the usual crowded bedlam of main beach turned out to be a nice cruisey surf with a few others. Freezing feet by the end of it. Hello winter.

Sunday - I decided to give my regular 11km route a go and test out the ankle. It was quite stiff to start with and I almost bailed, but I took it easy and ran to the point where it loosened up. Big headwind on the way out, and some wind assisted speediness on the way back. I'm not sure if running was the best idea, but I'll rest now for a couple of days and hope it keeps improving.

6.4 miles yesterday and 4.6 this morning.

I scared a deer today and the deer scared me good too. Was running down a trail and scanning for rocks and all and when I looked up, I see something big and brown apparently bouncing towards me, then I shook my head and saw that the deer was bounding away from me, not toward me.

6 miles today on flooded streets. Ran a leg for a marathon relay team from work in the pouring rain. It was fun running through the puddles while the shoddies ran around them. A very labored run though as I came down with a flu bug on Friday. Lots of coughing left my throat so dry that I lost my voice, my wife is happy about that. Not so if one is running, could not reply to all the barefoot comments, they were all positive so I just gave them a thumbs up as thanks. I arrived at the exchange zone right on my predicted time which surprised me as I felt really slow due to suffering with flu bug, felt light headed a few times. Now to medicate myself and rehydrate with a few IPA's.

15 km, slow and steady. Some pull-ups along the way. (Yes, en courant; I call them flying pull-ups :)). Lots of comments about my lack of shoes. Perfect weather. Good times.

5 mile run today at 7:00 am. Missed the lighting bugs today (to light out) but had a very nice run.
Saw one squadron of parrots flying overhead and screeching.
only 15 miles this week but I am good with this.

2.5 miles pavement. Some weird yoga moves along the way. Looked like I was peeing in the middle of the road. :) Had a couple swigs of whiskey before I ran - cuz there is nothing alcohol and running can't make better.

biking isn't the same as running in the rain.

Only a 10 mile shod run this week. First hay harvest and prep for a Germany trip is taking up all of my running time. Trying to do most of my chores around the house and time in the tractors barefoot to make up for the lack of mileage.

Nice run Steve and thanks for the pic. I'm always curious about what other BRSers are running on. A few more months and I predict you won't even notice that surface. I still struggle with larger gravel and rough chip seal.

Well, that swim never happened. I got taken out to dinner by a daughter and son-in-law early Saturday evening, then today I worked in the garden some. By the time I had done "weeding squats" for a couple of hours, I knew that it would be best to call it a day since I have a long run tomorrow.

Skipped the trail again today due to time constraints...had a good long slow run though 10.3 miles on pavement..slow pace, about 12:30 a mile average, some faster, some slower...just got into a rhythm and enjoyed the scenery :)

Very happy with my running this weekend.

    Miles YTD: 178.8

    Thanks Rick...was a great weekend!

That track surface hurts so much cause there is no give under that coarse sand..it sits on top of hard pack so the only give is into one's skin lol

Running on pavement is like a little slice of heaven after a mile or so on that track....oddly, coarse gravel does not bother as much as that track lol

If anyone in Socal wants to give it a go as a training aid, its the quarter mile track behind the Junior High at Roosevelt and Jeffrey...Take the Jeffrey Rd exit off the five, go East, and make a Right on Roosevelt...school is on the left....good times :)

sandy trails became very easy for my feet
    I ran 80 km in 4 days
I guess I was tired at the end cause I lost my balance and my right foot fell on a bad rock
now I got abad pain in the arch, no run for the coming week,
maybe I'm gonna learn to cook or do more yoga

Sunday, 20 Km. Saw 4 deer, one rabbit and assorted birds...Oh, and three people sitting on a park bench with a campfire at their feet....
Also, the 20 km was my longest run ever! :)
