    45 minutes of yoga.

I can already feel my ligaments responding to yesterdays strength building injections. So glad I went. Going to do some more areas in a couple weeks like my calf and ankle.

And here is an amazing video of what dedication to yoga can do for you. Watch Arthur's story at the top.

Ran 30 minutes at Harbins Park in the new section for a couple laps. Cloudy low 50'sF....still doesn't feel Spring-like this week.

    Wednesday afternoon.

The morning's snow melted off quickly, so I ran my standard 3.1-mile/5k route home bare at 34F/26Fwindchill. Some of the slush patches challenged my uncallused toes, and when I got home I waited for the pain as the feet warmed up, but it never came. Then a quick session of bentover rows and landmines. Good lord, I love landmines. So great for the obliques.

    Thursday morning.

Anticipating good bareable conditions this afternoon for a longer run down by the river, and knowing Friday and Saturday's barefoot forecasts are dodgy (precipitation, and then colder temps), I did my squats first thing in the morning, and tried a new exercise, the power snatch:

This exercise is a nice complements to both the squat and the overhead squat, and I think it's a good idea to work at least one more explosive, compound movement into my weekly routine. I'm a little concerned about the extra wear and tear on the left shoulder though. Not sure if it's good to spread it out in the workouts or perhaps put this exercise together with a similar movement, like the power cleans, so that the shoulder has more time to recover.

Then one-mile run-commute over dry and icy surfaces at 22F. Accuweather said the realfeel was 25F. WTF? How can it feel warmer than the air temp when it's below freezing? I marked it in the -10C to -5C category of the Winter Challenge nonetheless.

Guy on bike in parking lot sees my bare feet as I slow to a walk in order to reach into my pocket for my keys:

"It's the first day of spring, not summer!"

The local paper is handing out ribbons for having survived the harshest winter in 35 years:

Mostly enjoyed a 10K in the sun and chilly wind today. My feet were more tender since my race Saturday than I thought still, so I would have done better if I had run on my smoother path, but oh well.

Side note about my dog running with me. She is nicely trained to run without tension on the leash, right by my side, and does well most of the time, although she can be a little protective sometimes. I don't often take her when running with other family members any more because her herding instincts (she's probably an Australian Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix, a stray we adopted off the street 8 years ago when she was 4 months old). She just can't handle us not all running in a compact group that she can circle! But today, she did something new. It was just she and I, and she was running nicely along side at about mile 5 when all of a sudden she side bumped me. It was obviously quite intentional and she didn't miss a step in her pacing. If I hadn't been barefoot and able to maintain stability in the next step, I think I would have fallen. I exclaimed and looked at her, just in time to notice a bicycle pedaling up from behind on the path. He hadn't made his presence known and I was in the way. She had moved me. I told her she was a good puppy. :)

I got to celebrate the first day of Spring with my first barefoot run home tonight.
    The 7 miles felt blissful!

Umm, all of your links from exrx.net show this image.
Apparently, the webmaster for exrx.net doesn't like hotlinking.

This includes the images that you posted on the overpronation thread. It was actually pretty clever. Though, not so much now, after the exrx.net webmaster blocked it.

First run of the week today, so I went out this morning for a 12km/7.5mi with very pleasant weather.

Sunday will be a long run, I hope to get up to 20km/12.6mi, I'll see how I go.

Next week is back to Brisbane, so not sure how much running I will be able to do

I am now keenly aware that 45 minutes of yoga...hurt. 15 minutes should be plenty. The one and only tai chi class I ever took, nearly killed me -the next day!

4.5km walk barefoot at lunch today, mostly concrete path but some grass. I sure got some looks in my suit pants and business shirt, carrying my shoes. Nobody commented, at least not that I heard.

Often even more the day after that. So many unused muscles show up. Was it your thighs? They do build strength pretty quickly.

    Thursday afternoon.
11.2 mi/18 km down to Ford Parkway Bridge, at 42F/5.5 C, 32F/0C windchill. Very pleasant surface conditions for the most part, but my running fitness still leaves something to be desired. Luckily, it was warm enough to walk a bit and linger on the bridges without having to put on the Sockwa backups.

    Friday morning.
3.1 mi/5 km at 32F/0C, 17F/-8.3C windchill. Feet felt fine the whole way. My middle toes' calluses are starting to reform I think. Legs were a bit stiff and heavy, but I think the heavy lifts are helping with recovery.

Foiled again by the evil webmaster. He's everywhere reminding us of the temporal instability inherent in the interwebs. But you'd think ExRx would like the free publicity, no? In any case, I've taken advantage of that self-same temporal instability/ambiguity and gone back and put in a different link, for posterior posterity.
Yoga, or martial arts, it's definitely a missing element in my fitness routine.
I got me a yoga book, gotta try to work in 5-10 minutes a day.
I know I should really sign up for classes somewhere, but time keeps on slipping, slipping . . .
Wow, smart dog. It's always nice when pets have a function too.
Good luck! Will there be any rabbits or owls involved?
If we were perfectly balanced, we wouldn't need the rest of the universe.
I like that. It's like Sybil or Sqyrbil or something.

Checking in. It's been a rough week. Last time I ran was on Sunday, when I did about 6.4 and brought that to a stop because I could feel that the tickle I had in my throat was going to grow into something more. Even ended up going to the doctor on Wednesday to get checked out and reassure myself it wasn't something more serious. I finally slept fairly decent last night and didn't wake up too often. I've only used one throat lozenge today and feel like I can try to give the legs a short run tonight. I'll see how I feel when I get home and will delay if that feels smarter.

Yuck. I hate springtime cooties. Hate cooties in general, too.
    Get better quickly.

1hr 15 min swim, slow steady effort for the first 30 laps, then some intervals, kicking, and working on breathing efficiency at the end.
right when I woke up: some abs, some arm weights, but not enough to "count"----had to wake the children.

I keep dreaming about running barefoot on warm days, on a mixture of concrete sidewalks and muddy grass areas. Sigh.
