I started a barefoot hiking group out here in the Boulder area...Our first meeting was today & it was SO MUCH FUN! Almost everyone (despite showing up in an assortment of VFFs, Zems, water shoes) shucked their shoes once we got out in the wild open nature, which really surprised me! A great encouragement for a first-time event organizer :D

I would really recomend anyone who hasn't tried barefoot hiking to try it! The feet learn to navigate the terrain, placing feet & enjoying the many textures of nature. Today we experienced rock, dirt, mud (YAY!!!), & pine needles. Despite it being 50ish degrees most of us where barefoot for a good portion of the day.

I feel like I'm starting a very rewarding adventure :)

Oh and here's the link to the Barefoot Hikers site with other groups near you: http://www.barefooters.org/hikers/

And The Barefoot Hiker book by Richard Frazine (the guy who started the Connecticut barefoot hiking group in the 70s that still lives today): http://www.bhthom.org/hikertxt.htm

Good job, Mary!  Maybe you'll

Good job, Mary! Maybe you'll get them to try barefoot trail running next. Hee.

Hey Mary!  I joined the group

Hey Mary! I joined the group as well - however I am in Florida... I have a trip planned this summer back to colorado. Would love to meet up for some barefoot fun! We are staying a week in the Denver area and two weeks traveling around colorado/utah hiking, biking, rafting etc...

I'm jealous, I always get

I'm jealous, I always get stuck hiking with shodies which kind of spoils the fun. Your group sounds like a blast.

I'll be back in the summer, let me know if anyone is interested in hiking Bierstadt or Grey's/Torrey's. Or any of the other cool hikes in Clear Creek.

Mmmmm Clear Creek County

Mmmmm Clear Creek County sounds like fun! We've been wanting to get out to Georgetown but we've only driven as far as Evergreen...(we are scared midwesterners driving in the mountains. Enough said. Hahaha!)

We will keep the meetup group updated for anyone who wants to drop by! This link is here: http://www.meetup.com/Front-Range-Barefoot-Hiking/

My favorite picture from the hike is this one:

I love the dog's paws haha,

I love the dog's paws haha, it fits so well.

Georgetown is my Colorado home, one of my favotrite places in the world :). Maybe we could do a barbecue at my place after a hike up there and let the traffic die down for you Denverites.

I'll definitely look your group up when I am coming out to visit.
