I have created a map that we can add markers/flags to show where barefoot-friendly podiatrists, chiropractors, and other specialists are located around the county. Please add your known barefoot-friendly podiatrists, chiropractors, and other specialists to this map and include all of the info you can on the doctor or specialist you are recommending, name, titles, address, phone numbers, specialties, mannerisms, etc.

Click on View Barefoot-Friendly Doctors & Specialists Map in a larger map (below). You must have a Google account to log in. Once you've logged in, click on the Edit button. Edit markers will be displayed including the blue flags pictured. Locate the doctor's city on the map. Click the flag marker. Click the city. Enter your doctor's or specialist's info. Click Save. Click Done. Log out.

    DR. PETER F. GREGORY D.P.M.1

DR. PETER F. GREGORY D.P.M.17316 FARMINGTON RD LIVONIA, MI 48152-3158 US
Tel: 734-522-7676 Fax: 734-261-2130 Open minded to the concept and theory of BFR, he has been following my progress with interest. When I asked him for permission to be listed here, he said that he would definitly do his best to help a barefooter whether in need of diagnosis, treatment, or advice. University of Michigan undergraduate degree.Ohio College of Podiatry DPM. Can I vouch for his integrety? We grew up a block apart, were in the same kindergarten class, roomed together in Ann Arbor, and he has treated the five of us in the family as well as my own father. He trusts me with with his family's teeth, I'll put on shoes and orthotics if he tells me to.So far barefoot it is, despite the assorted conditions I've had, including over pronation, low arch, degenerative osteo arthritis of the 1'st metatarso-phalangial joint including total cartilage loss & bone spuring , and plantar fasciitis.Orthotics are the standard treatment for these conditions, but as a die-hard barefooter, he knows that they are not an option for me.Understanding the barefooter's needs is the first step, and realizing that orthotics are a last resort rather than the first line of defence is the keyThe real challenge will be filling in this map outside of the Midwest!

    I haven't seen my podiatrist

I haven't seen my podiatrist in two years; but after seeing me barefoot in his office lately, my chiropractor, Dr. Gerald Edwards @ Sierra Chiropractic in Reno, Nevada is reading Born to Run. He is totally open to it, and it's anecdotal, but he thinks we're on to something because I have been to see him less frequently since changing my running form.

    Twinkle, Can you verify that

Twinkle, Can you verify that he will be on-board with barefoot running? If so, we can add him to the map, and I can change the title to Barefoot-Friendly Podiatrists & Chiropractors.

Board, we can add your guy too. What do you think?

    Great.  Thanks.  With

Great. Thanks. With Twinkles chiro, if he's good to list, we'll have a couple of them. We can even change the flags on the map so that some of them are blue for podiatrists, and the others are say green or something for chiropractors. Let me know you guys.

    TJ,I will definitely follow

    TJ,
I will definitely follow up with him the next time I go in and let y'all know. I'm just as interested to know his take on it all too!
I will mention that when I was last in and talked about BF running he said nothing to discourage me; he was actually quite intrigued by it.

    Hey TJ,Saw Dr. Edwards last

    Hey TJ,

Saw Dr. Edwards last night and he is completely on board- he hasn't finished BTR nor started to run BF himself, but he supports it and admits that everything he thought or was taught is being turned on its head with respect to biomechanics and the so-called necessary arch supports, orthotics, and cushy padding.

Do y'all need the contact info and address?

    I've added the chiro.

I've added the chiro. Thanks, Twinkle. Board, do you have your guy's info yet?

I was not able to figure out quickly (since I don't have the time) how to change the flags to different colors or icons to represent podiatrists versus chiropractors (or doctors, should we add them later). If anyone would like to try, please do. Also, the locations in the dialog box that holds the contact info for each of the flags is not exact with the street address, just close enough for the city. If anyone can correct this, so that once a flag marker is zoomed in on, it will actually show the exact position on the map, I sure could use the help. Thanks.

      Cool video from Dr Ray

Cool video from Dr Ray McClanahan. One of the Docs from your map.

    Great Idea!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLLjwAZVkrY

During the video you can see the lights go on as Dr McClanahan explains how conventional shoes totally mess up foot function.

    He never responded TJ, but

He never responded TJ, but had said that he would love to be listed.

I'll check back and see if he is still interested.

You mentioned the different colors and adding Dr's, I assume you mean MD's, preferably orthopedic surgeons.

Don't let the Pod's and Chiro's catch you not calling them doctors!

I will definitly keep my ears open for any talk of orthopedic surgeons open to the benefits of BFR.

    I don't get what you're

I don't get what you're saying, Board. Podiatrists are MDs, chiropractors are not (at least that's the way it is in the US). I understand in other countries, podiatrists are not MDs. Please clarify.

    Podiatrists are DPMs, not

Podiatrists are DPMs, not MDs. They did not go to medical school and then go on to specialize in feet. Rather, they attended a school of podiatric medicine after college. They are doctors though, just as chiropractors (DCs), osteopaths (DOs), optometrists (ODs), naturopaths (NDs) and dentists (DDSs and DMDs) are.

If you're not confused enough, lawyers (JDs) are doctors as well, juris doctors.

They are allowed to use that title if they chose to do so, but not in a deceiving manner, as in advertising their expertise in medical malpractice issues under the name of say "Dr. LPJ, medical malpractice law expert".

Just a random name of course, any similarity to a kilt wearing barefoot ultra runner is purly coincedental.

Podiatrists in the UK are not doctors.
