I live in Poway and have been hiking barefoot for about a year. Mainly north county inland and Mt. Laguna and Palomar.

I have yet to encounter another barefoot hiker, but almost crossed paths with one the other day near Lake Hodges. Initially I thought the other set of foot prints were mine, but soon realized that another crazy person was hiking the wet, muddy trail, barefoot, in the rain. Unfortunately I missed them by probably only 15 minutes or so.

Thea Gavin pointed me here after I posted on her blog about a barefoot hike she did in Orange County.

Hoping to connect with other San Diego barefoot hikers and maybe do a group hike sometime.

    Joe

ETA: Thanks Barefoot TJ. Posted link in Chapter Forum.

    Hi Joe--

I sent you an email, and also posted a comment under "Christie from Ramona"'s new member post.

Not too many replies yet . . . where's all the barefoot hikers in So Cal?!

C'mon people--let's get (our bare feet) together for a trail adventure :)

I'm in the San Bernardino Mountains, and make it down to the Orange County area pretty regularly. I'm planning several backpacking trips this year, and will be hiking almost everyday. I've only met one minimalist hiker/runner where I live, so connecting for a "trail adventure," with fellow barefeeters sounds great.

    Hi Joe,

Sorry, I just saw this post. I do some barefoot hiking. If I'm not barefoot, I'm in vibrams. Those very well may have been my footsteps around Lake Hodges. It's one of my favorite places to barefoot hike during my lunch break, lol. I hike and backpack and live down in Kensington by the Qualcom Stadium. After the San Diego Rock'n'Roll marathon this Sunday, I'm going to be switching back from marathon training to hiking and backpacking. Would love to go hiking with you some time. I agree, it's rare to run into fellow barefoot hikers. Check out my hiking group at www.perfectpace.com.

    Hi Glen,

Cool, we'll have to set something up. Hodges would be good as it's an easy BF trail.
I haven't been able to get out as much as I like recently, so my feet aren't quite as conditioned as in past years.
Did some BF hiking in Sedona this weekend and had to take it pretty slow on the rocky parts.

    Hi Joe,

Yeah, let's meet up for Lake Hodges. I've been street running prepping for the marathon, so my feet aren't as conditioned for the trail either. Looking forward to getting back on the trails. I love Sedona! Great place to hike :)

    Hi Glen and Joe--

I took my grandaughters and their Girl Scout/Brownies troop (ages 7-8) for a hike near Lake Hodges earlier this summer. My granddaughters and several of the other girls ended up barefoot with me . . . I'm always glad to have an "influence" on the next generation of hikers. Life is busy, but it would be fun to try to get a critical mass (the three of us + ? ) out for a barefoot So Cal hike one of these days . . .

    In the meantime . . . happy trails :)

    Yeah, one of these days.
I PM'ed Glen back in June but never got a reply.
People get busy with other stuff.
    Tough to set up something.

Glad to hear you put a bunch of bare foot prints around Hodges!
