Cap City 1/2 Marathon, I finally broke 1:30!!

Huh, interesting! So you're saying for your typical daily run, you run with a metronome, but for this particular race you didn't?

Cap City 1/2 Marathon, I finally broke 1:30!!

Good stuff man. Does your Garmin calculate your cadence throughout your runs/this race? I'm interested in collecting more data on barefoot runner's/shod runner's cadence (vs speed) and how the difference relates to injuries. Also, just my own curiosity. Sub 1:30 is definitely solid!

    The Grass Illusion

I completely agree that relaxation is key, and it is a lot easier to relax when you know you are running on a clearly defined surface and your body knows what to expect with each step. When I said "our brains can see exactly what we are running on and where exactly our feet are going to land...

    The Grass Illusion

I have no doubt that most of us here don't care much about what others think about us when they see us running barefoot, and believe me, I absolutely run barefoot for my own benefit (lack of injuries, more enjoyment) first and foremost. But I also want to help others. I want to help them...

    The Grass Illusion

Hi everybody, long time no talk. I've been planning on writing this piece for a while, but I absolutely hate writing, so it's tough for me to dedicate the amount of time that it takes to organize my thoughts properly and write out everything I want to say. There are a lot of things that I...

    Barefoot at Work

Yeah, it's sad that sitting behind a desk is usually the most practical way to get the bills paid. Working at the YMCA alone isn't going to serve me very well financially, so hopefully I can find some other part time work. I've played piano for a long time and studied music in college, so I'm...

    Barefoot at Work

Wow, thanks for all of the replies, guys. I haven't been here on the site in a while, and I could give a little update on my current working situation... I quit my office job about 6 months ago or so...that place was a living hell. I seriously just can't handle a desk job and I don't know how...

    Feeling heelstrike on walking?

Glad someone else posted on this topic, because walking gait has been quite a problem for me. I don't wear my Xero shoes anymore, but I have owned two pairs of them. I definitely experienced a painful jarring when walking in Xero shoes. My attempt at a solution to this was to cut the heel off...

    Growing Your Own Food

I've been thinking about renting a small plot of land to grow my own vegetables. I might try some fruit as well but I think that fruit will take a lot longer and be pretty tough to grow where I live in Maryland. I'm not planning on becoming vegan or following a strictly "paleo" diet or...

World Record 800m Runner Why Kenyans are Great Runners

The short discussion starts at about 20:24 into the documentary. David Rudisha is asked what he feels Kenyan athletes do differently than Americans and Europeans that allows so many Kenyans to be great runners. His response isn't much of a surprise...

    Barefoot at Work

I hope this link works on here... I just wanted to add this becaus there is a decently long clip of what appears to be smooth dirt paths in rural Ghana. These are the kind of paths I wish existed here and that I dream of being able to run on on a daily basis.

    Cool ole dude

Watch "tears of the amazon" if you wanna check out some real gurus, haha. Not that they are trying to do much barefoot promotion, but those videos really show us how much we have messed up with our "modern" lifestyles.

    Any Grounding Experience?

Hi David (or Thom?), I don't really have any experience with "grounding" exactly (other than running barefoot, I guess) but I would like to attempt to give some advice on dealing with insomnia, as I do have quite a bit of experience with that (my good friend also has a lot of experience with it...

It's Here! Barefoot Running Magazine's Autumn/Winter 2013 edition is out!

I like to think about people who think that going barefoot is weird, like this: They think that NOT putting on shoes is weird. We wake up in the morning, get up and DO NOT put on shoes...we just remain the normal way we are supposed to be... They get up in the morning and, many times, for no...

It's Here! Barefoot Running Magazine's Autumn/Winter 2013 edition is out!

Yes, I agree, there is definitely a difference. We can't change everything about the world overnight, so there are definitely still plenty of occasions where there is a need for shoes. Yeah, even though 'movement' doesn't seem like the best term to use to me either, I often use it just...

It's Here! Barefoot Running Magazine's Autumn/Winter 2013 edition is out!

I would say that it isn't even possible to truly hone in on the biomechanic benefits without experiencing the sensuous element, ie losing the shoes completely. Sure, people can take chi running/pose method/whatever other kind of classes are offered out there, but until you totally lose the...

You Have a Foot Size, Not Shoe Size

Because names are normally listed in the order that people are positioned in pictures. Also, you can tell from their skin tones, Dr. Lieberman has the fairest skin...and the way that their feet look and the musculature of their legs.

You Have a Foot Size, Not Shoe Size

I saw in some interview he did, several years ago, he said he tried out running without footwear. So I was assuming that he had never done it until a decently old age, and I'm assuming that he probably didn't continue on with it very much. I could be wrong, but that's why I left that comment.
