Any San Diego Area Barefoot Hikers?

After a good rain, a lot of "mud" in this area is just hyper wet sand. They maintain the trails by dumping sand on them. Feels nice, but not as good as "real" mud. But I know a few spots that form pretty decent mud after a good rain.

Any San Diego Area Barefoot Hikers?

No barefoot hikers in SD? Look what you're missing. We've had more rain than usual this season, leading to some muddy fun!

Any San Diego Area Barefoot Hikers?

Dredging up this old thread. After a semi-hiatus from hiking in general, I'm working on getting in (barefoot) hiking shape again. Been doing a few hours of easy barefoot hiking per week to start with. The recent rain have helped since the local trails are a bit softer than unusual. As before...

    President Trump

I agree. Electing a lying, traitorous, criminal harpy would have reflected better on America.

Preparing for a barefoot creek walk

Perhaps there will some "clean" mud along the banks. Fun to squish through it.

    Favorite barefoot memory

8 mile hike in the mountains at my peak of "barefoot fitness". Took day off from work, perfect weather, nice trails, no one around. I felt great until the last mile or so when I had to put sandals on. Overall a memorable BF experience.

    Barefoot Buddy Amanda

Its good you have a female friend to walk with. I find walking or hiking BF, alone vs. with my girlfriend, I get more odd looks and comments when alone. Perhaps a lone barefoot guy in public seems a bit strange to some people. (my GF does not go BF). And I'm probably more self-conscious about...

Coming out of the barefoot closet

My girlfriend knows I like to hike barefoot (and be barefoot in general), but no other family or friends do. Just don't feel the need to tell them and have to answer the resulting questions and concerns.

    Seasonal textures

Mud is by far my favorite, but we don't get much mud here. Very little rain and the soil is sandy/gritty, so it doesn't make good mud. Wet grass probably second favorite.

    Mt Moosilauke 10.77 miles

I once did an 8 mile hike on Sunset Trail on Laguna Mountain in San Diego county (IIRC having once lived in San Diego, TJ probably knows where that is). I recall being pretty worn out and putting sandals on for the last mile or so.

    People's reactions when you run

The nicest comment I've gotten was just recently, while walking on a nearby trail. I passed a woman and her husband walking their dog, and the nice lady says "Oh how fun to do this barefoot!" I found women typically smile, ask a question out of genuine interest, or make a positive comment...

    Barefoot bike pedals

Those are the cycling sandals I use as well, with Crank Bros Eggbeater clipless pedals on my road bike. Heavy and dorky looking, but stiff and have held up for over 2 years and 6000 miles so far. I modified them by cutting off the front toe cap/protector piece for better air flow. I wear them...

    No entry at Costco

It was probably that particular manager or store, not a corporate thing. I saw a guy barefoot in my local Costco not too long ago (and he was in the food section - the horrors!!). Somehow he was let in (or maybe they didn't happen to notice) I wonder if the membership agreement says anything...

    compilation of people going barefoot

You can find entire websites that "specialize" in photos of people barefoot in public. A lot of the photos are staged, some not.

    are white feet ugly?

I think it's cool (but rare here) to see someone barefoot in public, tan or otherwise. But I don't care too look too closely - feet are generally not that attractive in and of themselves. Being barefoot is though, if that makes sense. I've always disliked group barefoot hiking photos that just...

whats your favorite surface to walk/run bf?

Mud, of the just proper viscosity, depth and temperature. But in a pinch, almost any kind of mud will do!

aesthetics is important for you when you go barefoot?

I think BF with blue jeans looks pretty good. Outside of work, I'm either BF or in flip flops/sandals, so I keep them shaved, with nails short and clean, tan in summer. Male feet are not the most attractive body part, so every little bit helps. Little dirt on the soles is fine, unless hiking -...

She Sure LOOKED Like a Barefoot Runner!

Kidding aside, I think it's great there are free-spirited barefoot ladies around who are willing to chat with a like-minded stranger and take cutesy photos. Very cool. Never see anything like that in my neck of the woods.

She Sure LOOKED Like a Barefoot Runner!

Multiple friendly, pretty barefooter girls with cute, dirty feet? I think a visit to Key West may be in order.

    People's reactions when you run

Women seem to be more open minded about it. I've never gotten a scowl, odd look, incredulous or flippant comment from a female while out hiking, only smiles, thumbs up or questions of genuine concern or curiosity - are you cold? does that hurt?, etc.
