Not as exciting as hiking in Greenland

But I did a 13.6 mile hike yesterday in the Hickory Creek Wilderness Area in the Allegany National Forest in Pa. with two shod hikers. Supposed to have been a 6 hour 12 mile hike...ended up about 8 hours counting the time waiting for the forest service police officer to help get us out without...

    Ken Bob Saxton visiting

A few of you know that I am barefoot nearly 100% of the time and that I hike and run barefoot. Ken Bob Saxton (Google him), if nothing changes, will be at my place either June 23-25 or June 27 on his way to Canada. There is nothing better that he would like to do than to tell people (you) about...

    Bug Bad link

Seems Barefootyow moved my 2011-12 winter challenge award and it's showing as a broken link from photobucket. http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff487/BarefootYOW/BRS%20Winter%20Challenge/Award_Winter_Challenge_2011-2.png Doesn't work. Maybe someone should take it off...probably getting a...

Happy as a fly on a turd

I know this isn't impressive to most of you, but I'm happy. Did a 13k trail run in (officially) under 2:04 http://www.mapmyfitness.com/workout/272134802 I wasn't ready for it last year and my legs screwed up - 3:18 - had to walk the last 1.5 miles. This year was good for an old fart.

    Diggin' to China

I'm not a fast runner...more like halffast. I did a 5k today in the rain - Olivia's Wish, Evangola State Park, NY. A PR for me - don't laugh - 36:49. I must have saved enough for the end. I heard a guy say " Look at him! He's diggin' to China!!" And I was the only barefoot runner..oh, and...

    Garmin 405 cx

I bought a Garmin 405 CX GPS watch mainly for the heart-rate monitor. Seems like that's the only thing it's good for. I ran a 13k trail race 5-5-12 through an open canopy forest (leaves not fully out). The 405 repeatedly lost satellites. I thought I was doing good...the watch said I went 5...

    Finished - slow

I finished my 13k trail run yesterday ... quite a bit slower than I wanted. Not running much the last few weeks didnn't help much. I did get third out of three in my age group.

    Got to run

After goofing off for a couple weeks, I got in about 4 trail miles at Letchworth State Park. A little mud on feet never hurts!

Ultra runner - day by day

Hey, I like that ticker in my sig. I've done (as of today) a 42 mile ultra over 16 or so days! :) I have discovered that I have to hit 20+ a week to hit a 1,000 this year, but the way I feel now, I might go over by fall...stay tuned.

Not running but barefoot none the less

Since this isn't about "running" - hiking instead, I put it here. A slide show of my hike up Q Mountain in Quartzsite, AZ 1-27-12. I think I saw where someone ran up this...my hat's off to you sir...

    Need a partner

There is about 24 miles of the Finger lakes Trail going through Letchworth State Park south of Rochester, NY. I'd like to run/walk it the first or second Saturday in May next year. Darned if I want to run/walk the return so I need a car at the end of the trail. The best way I can see that...

    2nd 5k race done

Last Saturday in Ripley, NY for the school wellness program. Did it in 35:39 - 2:46 faster than my last one - almost level course. I was first in my age group...I was also the only one in my age group . I think my next race will be an 8k in July in Silver Creek, NY. I know I can hike 6 miles...

    My second race

Didn't where I posted this so here it is... May 22, Jamestown Airport - 5k put on by the SDA school in Jamestown, NY. 2.5 k down hill, 2.5 k back on asphalt and rotten asphalt. For some reason, maybe the poison ivy I got into a week earlier, my feet and lower legs were swollen and the...

    Another toughening the feet

I went for a 5 mile hike that turned into a 6 miler - my longest yet. I hike to give my feet exposure to different textures of terrain. Trail hiking also toughens up the entire sole of the foot because you apply pressure to the arch area moreso than when road running/walking. This one was in...

    See where I run

I needed a fairly safe place for my feet while I built up my wind - endurance for the technical minded. Found it at SUNY Fredonia. I have an almost 2 mile course on sidewalks - You can see it at Chautauqua Barefooter. Where do you run? Thanks, Lee
