I had an enjoyable 5 mile run at 4:45 am back to 70 deg. f..
I heard one owl crying out.
The skies were clear and I spotted Venus but could not see the Moon.

4.5km for me this morning. Not too cold, but a bit blustery so it was fresh enough!
Ran past the usual keep fit crowd doing their early morning routine of 'burpees' etc... and a small group of runners heading in the opposite direction (all said good morning, which was nice...).
They did seem quite well wrapped up against the wind though -made me feel a little underdressed in my shorts and running top...

Wasn't -7C, but not being used to the cold and 44F is chilly for me. Then the crazy 20+ mph wind drops the 'feels like' down in the 30's. I put on long sleeve shirt plus light jacket and my lightly insulated tights. Core got just a tad warm but not too hot, and on the return trip facing the wind my hands froze. 6.1 miles today. Took a pic on the trail as the sun was setting. Nice blue sky and clouds today, all the leaves are gone.

Also: 9.8 miles Tuesday in dreary damp and misting weather, just under 50F so both runs this week are in the winter challenge so far.

Blue Red Run 1/2 marathon this morning.
It was great....
Well done on finishing the 13 miler Runlite (I'll get there one day!...)

A modest 5km for me to round off the week this weekend. Ran with my shod running partner again, so followed a different route from the usual one. Took in a wide variety of surfaces -block paving (wonderfully smooth), tarmac, asphalt, and freshly laid gravel!
The gravel was certainly a challenge, but I slowed down and managed to focus on maintaining a really short stride & that seemed to work ok -shoddie was obviously completely oblivious to the effect!). Good run & felt comfortable at the end. Feet holding up well...:barefoot:

Congrats Runlite01 on a successful half!

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is tarmac? I thought it was another term for asphalt but I see you listed those separately...

As for myself, a fine week it was! Ended with a long run today, though barely what I would call a long run I am just slowly working my way back up. 12 miles today, the last .5 walking cooldown. Yesterday 4.5 miles just out the front door and back. No biking this week however.

Puts my week at 32 miles and change. First week I've broke 30 in a long time... since January actually! Now I just got to hope the warmer than average temps linger a little longer and I can keep this up. Next 3 weeks at work are going to be hard to get as many miles in though.

Truth is it's probably my ignorance of terminology! The surface I'm calling 'tarmac' is a relatively smooth black surface used on some pathways & I've seen it in multi-storey/underground car parks, etc.... By 'asphalt' I mean the surface you tend to get on lower grade roads. I'm sure you're correct and they are both the same thing, it's just that the one I'm calling asphalt seems to be made with much larger 'bits' & is therefore rougher underfoot. -Does that make sense? (Apologies to any builders out there!)...:sorry:
