Oh my gosh.
Posting from Cozumel Mexico!
Diving Running Diving (almost to fun).
4.8 miles this morning at 5:30 am Tons of free tail bats flying around the street lights, also some fruit bats.
The moon was good and many more stars than I can normally see in Dallas.
Roads are not bad to run on and my feet are good and legs are good!!
I must get some rest for more diving running diving:happy:

Sounds nice Runlite!

Week has started slow for me, even though it is my week off. Lots to do plus having my son this week limits my options. Monday I loaded and hauled a truck and trailer load of unsplit firewood - more of a workout than I've had in a long time and probably the most I've sweat this year. Tuesday cleaned house and yard, laundry, dishes, that sort of thing and played some games with my son. Wednesday got out for a 6.2mi easy run early, was 57F when I left - not used to those cold temps! Summery barely got here for a couple weeks now seems to be fading already. I just took it easy - been 5 days since I ran at all, and over a week since I did a decent run. Also loaded another truck and trailer full of wood. Today I got on the bike for a grocery store run in the morning, 12 miles.

Is it Thursday already? In addition to running this past weekend, I started the week with a 5.3 mile run on Monday. At this point I can't remember if I encountered anything out of the ordinary. Just another beautiful morning at Lake Merritt in Oakland CA. I put in easy 1 milers each morning again on Tuesday and today on my way to the gym. Then walked home. All done barefoot including working out at the gym. I am going to try running again this week.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I got both rides and runs in. Friday I did 10 miles on the bike with my son (very slow) and decided that wasn't nearly a workout so got a sunset run in just down the road and back for 4.6 miles. Saturday I biked to the trail, ran, biked back. 10.7mi on the bike, 6.2mi on foot. Was a bit of a speed workout I did every other mile slightly under 7 min pace, then a bit over 8:00/mi on the alternate miles. Today was 14.3 miles on bike and 4 miles running at a steady 8:00/mi.

Week total 47mi on bike, 21 on foot.

Never did get a long run in  though I desperately need one for my upcoming race. Just never had that much time I could get away with my son here and all. Next week I don't work until Friday, and my son is out of state until then as well, so plan on focusing on running, biking, and working on some home renovations I've had going since spring and need to get finished before fall!

Some shod binge mileage here if you don't mind.

Nothing all week until Friday because of hay harvest.

Friday - cleaned up a section of an Ultra marathon course from the previous week. Mostly hiking because of many markers being off the trees and down from wildlife. Elevation was between 10,000 and 12,000 feet. The peak climb (12,137) was with about 25 pounds of markers. Saw mountain goats, deer, elk, marmots, squirrels. Two rain squalls and a couple of close lightning strikes. 15.5 miles in 6.5 hours.

Saturday - another mountain route that I have wanted to do since Ultra distances became possible for me. A mountain rim to rim to rim. 31 miles, 8.5 hours. I am pretty sure I am the first one to do this route in one push. Elevation varied from 8,000 to 10,000 ft. Total change at least 12,000 feet.

Both runs were solo and self supported.

@Tristian - nice pace. What race do you have coming up?

Wow Rick Fri & Sat sure sound adventurous! And you did em back to back. Even with all the hiking I've done, 12,000' in a day - even just hiking sounds pretty extreme. Are you saying 6k up and down to equal 12, or 12 up and down!?! I have most of this week off and my son is out of town...almost took off to the mountains myself! I was really debating it! But just too much stuff to get done around the house.

I signed up earlier this year for the 18.12 challenge (Aug 30th), at Sackets Harbor NY on the historic battlefield from 1812. This is minutes from where I grew up, and excited to run there once again (its been since my high school cross country days that I ran a race in NY). I decided this would be my long race for the year since doing marathons the last two years without being able to get enough training in left me pretty hurt both times. But I'm not really trained up for an 18 mile race either, just struggling getting the miles in like always.

It was a busy barefoot walking and running weekend for me. It started with 5 miles around the lake on Friday morning. Then Saturday began with walking barefoot to and from the gym before my weekly trip to the Farmers Market. I couldn't dilly-dally at the Market because I had to drop my produce and fruit purchases at home before a rendezvous with the monthly Lake Merritt Barefoot Loop MeetUp. Our group of three went on a leisurely run around the Lake though we decided to take some of the rougher paths which were pretty abrasive on our feet. I had to walk through the really rough parts of the loop. Since I ran starting from home to the Lake, I logged my first 4 barefoot miles for the day. After completing the loop, I stopped off at the Farmers Market a second time with Efrem.

In the afternoon, I made an appointment in downtown Oakland for a haircut. With my feet and legs feeling pretty strong even after the morning loop, I decided to run barefoot to and from my stylist's shop; 2.3 miles to, and 2.2 miles back. All-in-all, a daily total of 8.5 miles! I have to admit, I am amazed my legs have become conditioned enough to do all these miles.

@Tristan - 12,000 total. Some runners or race descriptions report gain only, some net, some total. I like total because the downhill can be more difficult than the uphill. Roughly totaled Friday's hike at 10,000 change. Feeling it this week with soreness. Your race sounds interesting and fun. There should be more races in between the half and full marathon distances, but they are race to find. Have fun, you will do great.

@bare_ftazn - sounds like a fun barefoot day.

Ok, 12k total doesn't make me feel so bad then! Still more than I have ever done I think! I was wondering if its even possible to do both 12k up and down in one day! I know what you mean about the variations in talking about elevation change. In the hiking forums it seems usually people just talk in gain. But exactly like you say, often the descent is as hard or harder (especially with a full pack! and on scrambles) than the ascent so I like to simply give both. And for multi day adventures or transverse as opposed to loop, your ascent and descent would be different so I like to include both.
