Well...
I'm not starting from scratch, but still. Hi, I just joined the forum, and need some advice. I have been minimalist runner for pretty much the entirety of when I've been running (3ish years middle and high school). My feet are definitely strong enough to handle barefoot running. I bought some water shoes and took out the insoles to make 100% sure that they have no support or anything, just protection from the ground. So far I have done 5 runs in them, and after I have had no soreness or pain whatsoever.

My real problem is foot toughness (skin toughness?). Anyway, what are the best ways for toughening up your feet quick? (so far I have been just going around my house and street barefoot)

You want quick or safe?

Let nature take its course. Don't rush it. Ditch the watersocks and continue to run and walk barefoot everywhere you can. Progress at a reasonable distance and speed.

Welcome! Glad you're here! :barefoot:

Yes - Like TJ wrote: "quick" will get you hurt!

Nobody is going to grade you on this one, friend.

Try to adjust your mindset away from short term anything in favor of a lifetime's progress and enjoyment. I know that this mode of thinking isn't what comes really naturally to any 16 year old, but it's good to try on.

Developing a BF running style is much more like changing one's relationship with food than with just trying a new pair of shoes.

My opinion, anyway.

Skin and muscle are the tissues that adapt quickly. Bone and connective tissue take much longer. So it shouldn't take all that long if your feet are strong. Go out and walk and run barefoot. Work your way up in distance and time. Try to stop a little bit before it stops being fun. If it suddenly stops being fun, stop. You might bring some shoes along for that. For me, it happens very quickly and not always at the same point, so just because you ran a certain route yesterday barefoot doesn't mean that you're going to make it all the way today. At some point you'll know that you're going to be solid for a certain route and can leave the shoes at home.
