2015 IBRD Reports

Next year, let us help you publicize it, Sailor.

Yeah, I guess I should. But I did publicize it with our local runner's club website and on Facebook. The 2 other barefoot runners I know in the area were both out of town that day. I know there are others that at least use minimalist shoes that just didn't respond. Oh well.

Very excited to finally get a moment to report on the IBRD experience in St Louis Missouri, USA. We have been at it here in St Louis for several years now with Mike Kean (former chapter President) taking the lead and starting the chapter and me taking over last year. Mike has left town for the time being and joined the military putting himself to service for our country but is not forgotten and is very much missed!

We targeted a celebration this year as this is my fifth year of going unshod which I started in May of 2010 while in grad school and writing a business marketing plan on Vibram Five Fingers and stumbled upon BRS (whole new life!)...... The run was hosted as a part of the St Louis Microfest Beer Festival which took place in Forest Park just outside of the downtown area (Forest Park held the 1904 Worlds Fair and actually hosted two of the first Olympic marathon barefoot runners from South Africa more here - > link).

The run was a 2mi run, clocked but not chipped.... meant to be relaxing for the beer junkies smile emoticon There were two of us towing in the barefoot running crowd, me and Cameron a huarache wearer. We ended up blowing the race up with Cameron taking first and me finishing in the top 15 both of us under 14 min. Cruising! I guess we were thirsty.

We busted through the finish line and quickly made our way to the Samuel Adams Beer tasting for an hour. I took off following that but Cameron was the real trooper who stuck around for a beer tasting from 12 - 4! I imagine his feet swelled up and blew out of his huaraches.... at least mine would..... I wonder what Jesus did when he took in too much salt and experienced swelling smile emoticon

Overall a great experience and adventure which is what I have to say just about anytime I head out the door barefoot!

Looking forward to next year and some regular runs coming up in the coming months of warmth and summer !

Just noticied this thread so figured I'd contribute with what I had. I had planned to meet up with Ohio member Yvonne on IBRD and had an open invite for other Ohio chapter members but got no takers. Yvonne and I were both exhausted and slept in late anyhow! We had done the Capital City Half Marathon the previous day. I decided to hit the trail just for a short bit myself, and took Pepper my little dachshund mix. I was a bit sore from the 1:39 half the day before so we mostly walked but got a little running in too. Important thing was we were both barefoot and it felt great!

Things are starting to really green up around here. And the weather was great.

A tired doggie! She loves the park and the outdoors but can't run too far with those short stubby legs!.

My son had a double header football game later in the afternoon, and between games I spent about an hour jogging around the grass fields at the school. Added a bit over 5 miles running to my IBRD mileage. Made for a nice recovery run after the half the previous day.

Yesterday - less than four weeks after IBRD 2015 - my group participated in a local 6 km charity race with 14(!) barefooters (4 male + 10 female).

This pleasant success can probably be directly related to IBRD because 11 of them had participated in this year's Marburg IBRD workshop, and 5 of those had probably never run barefoot prior to the workshop.
