Hi, I am from Augusta, GA. I turned to barefoot running because I blister terribly and cannot even complete a half-marathon without blisters. Someone told me to start walking/running with bare feet to toughen skin up. I did. I blister even running with bare feet. So I get into it slowly.Every time I do a run, the last mile I run without shoes. It was weird at first but I am pretty comfortable now. I was concerned with barefoot running aggravating my plantar fasciitis but it is not happening. My feet feel pretty good. My mom, a physician, approves of it too as long as I keep my soles injury free.

Welcome, Kat. Sounds like you're discovering what so many of us have - that running BF can be a wonderful alternative that solves a lot of problems that are inherent with big running shoes. The strengthening of your feet that comes with BF running can also help actually alleviate some of the stress on the plantar fascia by strengthening your arches, which can help take some of the tension off of the plantar fascia. Be careful, take your time transitioning slowly (as you sound like you're doing) and enjoy!

Sounds like you've got a cool mom! Welcome! Be sure to lift your feet and not push off.

Welcome Kat!

Not sure of who is barefooting in the Augusta area but you could post in the Georgia chapter and see if anyone responds and don't hesitate to ask any questions...lots of knowledgeable barefooters here.
