What are the chances of getting HPV infection running or waking Barefoot outside or in shipping centers?

turns out there are many articles that claim
HPV and plantar warts are likely to happen

Articles that are likely supported by nothing more than an over-active imagination.
Fresh air, surrounding exposed skin, doesn't encourage fungi - they like damp, warm and enclosed environments.

That's my understanding as well.

However it does happen:

The virus - human papillomavirus (HPV) - caused warts to form on the sole of her feet.

Doctors say one of the symptoms of HPV is the forming of a hard lump.

If the lumps form on the soles of the feet, the person may feel pain when pressure is exerted on them.

"Because this virus needs direct contact (for transmission), I would advise that you don't share shoes and socks (with people)infected with the virus," advised Dr Lynn Chiam, consultant dermatologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.

"It can also be easily spread in communal areas and communal showers, and also in the office. I know a lot of people like to kick off their shoes and walk on the carpet. I wouldn't advise you to do that."

Are there really people scraping their fingers and/or genitals on the floor???

I'd be a lot more concerned about things people touch with their hands and/or genitals, such as a public toilet seat.

You can dodge a lot of colds and flus by not touching light switches or door knobs with your hands. Use your elbows, which can't touch your face afterward.

I'm confused. I thought HPV was a sexually transmitted disease, mostly given to women by men who have been, well, you know...

Excerpted from Brown University's website:
The virus does not survive long on inanimate objects, but it can be spread in the short-term if sex toys are shared between partners.

So what, exactly did she step on....? o_O

I think this is the much more likely explanation of how she actually got infected...
Excerpted from the CDC's website: http:
HPV is transmitted through intimate skin-to-skin contact....You can develop symptoms years after you have sex with someone who is infected, making it hard to know when you first became infected.

Gotta love it when Fact-Checking no longer becomes a requirement to maintain "Journalistsic Integrity" and becomes optional to help drive page views...

KY, so true and so sad.

But an interesting subject...an STD can cause cancer. I bet most people don't know that.
