Hi all! I officially joined the forums a while ago but remained a stalker until now :). I'm in the Cleveland, Ohio area, married with 3 kids 2nd grade and under. My husband supports my habit but thinks the no shoe thing is a bit nutty.

I'm a long time shoe hater and always walked around bare-footed, but for some strange reason put on shoes to run in. Go figure. I got injured back in college (chronic right knee), then the kids started to come along, and I stopped running. I picked it back up about 2 years ago but it was so hard, mostly because of the stupid shoes. So I just took them off one day. And I never put them back on.

Since then I've done a lot more research, found some books, found these forums, switched out my day shoes and work shoes from regular tennis shoes to VFF, have run some races, dropped 20 pounds, and so on. So long shoes!

Cheers!
Sarah

Welcome Sarah! If you haven't done so yet, please join the Ohio Chapter. We also have an Ohio FB page :)

Welcome! So, how's your knee been doing since ditching the shoes?

We had the MI IBRD event there in May the past three years and had a pretty large turn out for two of those.
I'm in the early planning stages for this year's event right now....keep it in mind!

Nice having you with us Sarah, did you run outdoors in wintertime?
WELCOME!!

My knee (and everything else) has been perfect, thanks! I have a co-worker that's going to start giving barefoot a try after she had to drop out of a November race because she injured herself and had to wear a boot for 2 months. She's still rehabbing last time I talked to her.

I'll keep my eye out for when you have a date set. Should be fun if I can make it! I have to work every other weekend :(

IBRD is internationally celebrated the first Monday of May every year. Since the race in Ann Arbor has a three decade plus history of a very family friendly run and actually promotes the BRS on it's website we return there year after year for the MI Lower Peninsula chapter's official IBRD event.
So Sunday May 3 2015 will be IBRD, and unless any other MI members have a better idea it will be Ann Arbor's Burns Park Run. It is a charity benefit for the local schools........I think you and the husband and kids will fit right in!

Only when I went to Florida for the Princess Half Marathon! Otherwise I may be Ohio born and bred but I really hate snow. And cold. And snow. And ice. And did I mention I hate the cold?

I know your pain all too well, the nice thing is that winter is ALMOST OVER!!!!

Welcome aboard Sarah! There used to be a few N/NE Ohioans here but not sure if any of them visit the site much anymore. I was debating putting something on for IBRD in central Ohio but I'm not even sure I'll be off Sunday, and have the Capital City Half Marathon that Saturday. Even if I have it off I may just be on the couch - recovering. :D

Glad barefoot has been helping!
