I think I've got my calculations right here. New week?

I spent a night in my old hometown of Ballarat on Sunday night and decided to have a really good go at running a fast (ish) lap of the lake - a 6km track that everybody in Ballarat uses as a running yardstick. The track is a mixture of fine gravel and some bitumen, but it isn't the easiest barefoot experience, which probably accounted for some of the looks I got from the other runners.

On the bright side - I charged around in under 26 minutes, which is super-fast for me, and within a couple of minutes of the times I used to run as a whippet-like 18 year old. I also passed a guy wearing a singlet advertising a local gym, which was weirdly satisfying. :)

On the not-so-bright side: my foot blew up in the last 200m, and I'm now quite sore with the old Top Of Foot Pain chestnut. As per usual, everything felt fine until the point in time when it blew up. I haven't had that problem for a few years, so I'm not sure why it came calling this week. I can only assume that running faster on rough surfaces makes me 'scrunch up' my feet a little to protect them, and maybe that is the cause. Fingers crossed that it's only temporary.

Maybe you just stretched out the old injury, but it will be better for it? I know that is sometimes the case for me, when a previously injured and healed part has not been used quite to the max yet. But do be careful while figuring it out.

I ran 11 miles barefoot yesterday. It was a comfortable pace, though I did feel a bit draggy the last couple of miles. My frustration is the ball of my left foot that keeps getting worn. I can't think what I'm doing that might be different. I thought it had healed and was good to go for this run, and it was fine until about mile 9. But the tissue is somewhat inflamed and the skin broken in a couple spots again. I am going to have to baby it for the rest of the week, either with tape or Lunas.

Made my plan for training for my 3 events this summer. Don't want to be dealing with this foot when it comes time for them.

1 mile training run on the treadmill in the Sockwa, trying to break the 11 minute barrier for Jantastic.

Experimented with Steven Sashen's advice that my blister in the new Z-Trek sandals was due to overstriding, and deliberately shortened my steps and quickened my pace.

Felt good for first 1.2km but then ran out of puff at 9.5 km/hr and had to slow it down.

Finished 13 seconds outside of my target at 11 mins 12.

I will do this during March!

Splashing in puddles for 5 miles BF, 43 deg. f. slight drizzle
I still enjoyed it!

Yeah, I think that could be right. I was walking OK 2 days later, and then tried I to play basketball last night and I'm now limping again. I don't think it's any worse than Monday though, so this time I'll give it a week before I do something stupid. :)

5K freedom parkrun around Tredegar Park in the huararches. 38 minutes something. Still trying too hard for a PB and getting hotspots on my middle toes :(

A wonderful circuit of Central Park this morning. It was ridiculously busy as Spring seems to be in the air, even though there is a foot of snow on the ground (the road was clear though) and the air temperature was around -5C, the sun was out there was no wind and everyone had come out of their, self-imposed, winter hibernation!

Jealous. That's the one place in the world I really want to run. No idea why. Just seems like a cool place to be

Ran another 19 miles this week, all in Luna's; plus, spin bike or swimming in the mix every day. Total for the week 30 miles. Skin on foot healed, but bruise still somewhat there. Getting ready right now to attempt 12 miles up in the mountains with snow around in order to fit in long run for next week and go "hiking with" some extended family. Hubby will run with me. The rest of the group plans to go about 5 miles total over several hours, so we may leave early and go get re-fueled. :angelic:

Weather let me run only 3 days this week, Tuesday, yesterday and today. 11.2 miles on Tuesday, 3.1 yesterday, and 12.6 today. It feels crazy warm today, I guess because we've finally reached what should be about the average temperature for this time of the year. Although I will admit that it was kind of cool to get up early Thursday morning and walk in about 10 inches of snow with the full moon shining and the temp right around 0. I wore boots for that and got a nice-enough photo from the walk:

What does buzzing feel like?
bf -A sort of intense tingling sensation just after I’ve finished running is probably the best I can describe it. –Not unpleasant, almost as if the thousands of nerve endings in the soles of my feet are simultaneously sending signals back to my brain letting it know that at last they’re actually feeling the ground instead of the lifeless inside of a shoe perhaps…
