Don't be too hard on the poor kid, he only looks about 14, and it is listed under 'Opinions.'

Maybe someone could email the publisher and enlighten them? :)

Yeah, that was my thinking as well. Although he does look 14, the publication is a college newspaper, and he is described as a senior.
I suspect he is just repeating things he's heard other places. It does seem that what he lacks in fundamental knowledge he makes up for with enthusiasm, though!
Overall it's a pretty positive opinion piece. He'd probably enjoy hearing from some REAL barefooters to help set him straight.

Applaud his enthusiasm and offer some moderating feedback.

It is very hard for some conservative, sheltered sorts to accept that no shoes, skin to ground, barefoot barefoot is actually a real thing.
