Well just a short 2.1mi barefoot run for me today in the peak of the afternoon before I have to get ready for my nightshift. The sky was clear azure blue and the sun was out bright so just had to get something in. 18ºF with minimal windchill (weatherbug said feels like 12º or something but I don't believe it). Sounds cold but was a piece of cake, aided by the warm sun - the road surface temps were 28-33F!

It was mostly dry but still lots of wet melted snow, though I avoided the actual puddles best I could. Still some frozen ice & snow in the shaded spots. The problem... man was there are lot of little sharp bits of grit everywhere! My soles feel like they went through a meat tenderizer in only 2 miles. :confused: Still a nice run in the sun though! But the soles are burning now.

Smooth 4 mile run at 5:00am 36 deg. f. feels like 29 deg. (cool breeze)
Good to get out and have a nice run.

Glad you had fun Tristan.
I got in my regular commute today and enjoyed it though the first 5 miles of my 7 mile run home were straight into a 20 mph North wind with an air temperature of about -7C/20F. I started warming up after the turn at 5 miles and had to take my hat off for the last 1/2 mile. I was glad to have been rugged up for the rest of the journey though :)

Just 30 min treadmill today. Ran fast, felt good. :)

I might also have to resort to treadmill runs on these days I don't have much time to drive somewhere... I'd just run out the front door down the road but after the rough conditions and grit on the road yesterday my soles were still burning today! I'm not running down that road again until spring lol. Unless there is a good layer of snow on it covering all that sharp stuff up! Unfortunately my soon to be ex wants the treadmill so I'm letting her take it to her new house. I know she probably wont barely use it (we've had it for 5+ years and I bet she hasn't put 10 miles on it yet). So I'll only have it for a couple more weeks probably.

Looks like due to someone being sick this week I'm called in to cover all 4 of his nightshifts. :( But at least the last two nights I was able to do some stairs throughout the night. A little less than usual but got 68 flights up and 82 down both nights so far. I'll try for more these next two.

14.85 miles today. 31 for the week so far.
There's been a lot of high winds in the U.K. this week so it's been hard to get out, also a bit of storm damage on the trails and lots of glorious mud.
I got hailed on in the last few miles, so was glad to get home to a nice hot bath with added ginger oil to thaw me out :)

I ran outside in Sockwas for 6.13 miles Monday? and it was almost constantly black ice. Very demotivating and difficult. It is this time of year that I crave a treadmill. I have used the spin bike one day, swam another, but I wanted to run today and it is about 34 degrees and raining, which is just not anywhere near my comfort zone. 34 and dry I can do, but not dripping. So, probably the spin bike again today, and chores around the house at a wacko pace because I am stir crazy.

We finally had a warm-ish day for January. Got into the low 40's, a couple degrees less when I ran in the afternoon. It was a bit windy at times but still nice to run in the upper 30's and also sunny out. Hoping my bike trail melts, but today it was a dense melting snow and slushy mess. I wore my SoftStars until I came to the open stretch that was snow free at 1.8 miles, took of my shoes, and ran the open stretch back and forth a few times. Each time I ran .3 miles into the snow on one end just to get a little barefoot snow mileage. That slushy snow is cold!

So today,
Total = 9.5mi
Barefoot = 5.9mi
Barefoot snow = 1.2mi

I think I'll be quite busy tomorrow and most likely not run, so my week stands right now at 14.1 miles. Also did stairs at the building I work (4 days) 264 flights up, 322 down.

Rough week for running this week. Last Sunday, I woke up with a sore throat and that was pretty much the story for the week. Never got super sick, but it's never all that great to run when you feel somewhat knackered. Took Monday off because of freezing rain and then cold rain, ran lightly Tuesday through Thursday, took a day off on Friday, ran a couple of miles yesterday. The sore throat disappeared on Saturday and today I 've only had remnants of nose congestion. So I did about 5.6 and totaled up 23.3 miles for the week, lowest mileage week since the week following the half-marathon. It does me give me now 17 straight weeks of 20 or more miles, which is a record for me.

Hopefully I won't get a repeat of last year when I had one cold and then about a week and a half after that, I got a second one. I could do without that.

8.4 miles yesterday in a damp 34° around my pond loop, but I took off my Sockwas after 4 miles and ran 2.1 miles barefoot. It was nice, but my feet were getting too cold after that, so I put the wools socks and Sockwas back on to finish.

On a side note, dh just told me a friend of his wants us to be a team with him for this: http://www.tritownboise.com/pages/winter-challenge Sounds short, but not necessarily easy to run even that far in the snow. Of course, I won't know what kind of snow until the day, which makes a huge difference. The friend would do the skiing, and dh the biking. At least in those sorts of conditions, it is unlikely that anyone is going to be very speedy...

I agree, it is always best to let the body rest when it is fighting something like that. Sounds like you still got in a decent weekly mileage. Better than mine!

Tues - 3.2 Barefoot on the Treadmill, Weights, Core work
Wed - 3.9 Barefoot on the Treadmill
Thur - I just didn't feel like it.
Saturday - 18 on the trail in the Trail Freaks
Last night was our company party so today was 13 miles of Hangover Recovery on the trail in the TF's. Felt great until I stopped running and the world started spinning again. I am reminded why I don't party like that anymore.

You're definitely right about rest. I just tried to thread that needle of doing enough running to not lose anything, but not doing so much that the virus might get the upper hand and knock me flat on my back. So thinking of it that way, the week was a win. It's also a bit weird to think how it used to be that whenever I went up over 20 miles in a week, that was a big week for me. Now it's disappointing some if I can't find the time and motivation to get at least 30 in.

Monday the 12th, I did 6.3 miles, barefoot around the lake; what i am hoping to become my standard Monday morning routine at 7. To get to 6.3 miles, I went around once and then kept going to 18th street before turning around and heading home. On Thursday, I did a mile in my VFF after working out at the gym and then went around the lake again on Friday to add another 5.85 barefoot miles to the week.

A light week for me also. Cross country skiing on Sunday with another 1200 ft climb and then downhill skiing the rest of the day. 20 miles total for the rest of the week in varied runs and footwear. Finished the week on Saturday with a nice barefoot run with a BRS friend in California. Timing for a beach run was a little off due to a high tide so we stuck to the roads. Not used to pavement, my feet were a little sensitive after, which helped make the decision to wear shoes for Sunday's marathon.........to be continued.
