Yep, he was in Florida running a race with his kids yesterday.
I'll bet he didn't believe in stretching.
Maybe during rehab he will discover barefoot activity as a means of allowing the tendon to stretch to it's correct length.
And just maybe.......he will join the BRS and the MI chapter!
Hope to see him at IBRD '15.
Do we have a date yet?

IBRD will be 3rd May Board. At least I hope it is, as that's when I'm organising it for in the UK! TJ is working on the details at the moment

Well I never saw a doc but I think I tore or strained mine in a race as well, and I did plenty of stretching before and after! Still is bothering after longer runs. :( Seems no amount of stretching has made my calves much less tight, and I'm sure that was a big factor with my achilles problem. Wish a had a more barefoot lifestyle prior to 2011.

Maybe you better. If it is a partial tear you can prevent a complete. Or if its just soreness in that general area you don't have to be so concerned.

IBRD always lands on the first Sunday in May. This year's will be on May 3.

Yeah I just remember we used to debate whether or not Cinco de Mayo was going to interfere, and it took a while to settle on Sunday rather than Saturday, but first Sunday in May makes the best sense. Soon I will contact the Ann Arbor Burns Park Director.

It wasn't a complete tear, I could still walk ok for the most part. So either a partial tear or just some serious strain I'm not sure. It would often hit me worse early in the morning, especially if I was getting up out of a chair I had been sitting in for a while. Usually on the second step I'd feel a sudden tearing sensation in it, kind of would feel like a guitar string snapping after being tuned to tightly lol. Would usually result in a stumble, clenching of teeth, and them limping around a few steps without putting pressure on my right foot until I could sit down and massage it. Usually as long as I just used light pressure I could ease right back into mostly normal walking. The tearing sensation would be mainly down low where the achilles attaches to the heel, to the outside (right side of my right ankle) of the bony back of the heel. I took a couple weeks off and then did a few more weeks of short and slow runs, building up slowly. However it occasionally still bothers the next morning after my longer runs (which are still relatively short compared to before). I thought it was gone for good since it had been over a week without feeling that particular pain, but after the 8 mile run I did a few days ago I felt a couple instances of that tearing pain the next day. :(

Back on the subject of IBRD, my schedule got changed for '15 and I happen to be working that weekend in the new schedule  and I had already signed up and paid for the Capital City Half Marathon the first Saturday of May, which I have run in for many years now. My days on shift are longer so require more vacation, and I am approved to take off that weekend. But I'm unsure if I want to burn 36hrs. Since I am on nights Fri-Sun, I could just take off Friday night for 12hrs, and race Saturday morning, catch a nap after the race, and work than night. I was debating for a while trying to actually organize something for the Ohio chapter for Sunday, but I'm not to great at coming up with ideas, and such. And now unsure if I want to blow 36hrs for the whole weekend, or just 12 for my race then come in to work Sat and Sun nights (which would pretty much kill any Sunday get togethers). Hmmm.

Balance........
