Is your New Year's resolution to run more BAREFOOT miles?
How many more miles per week do you plan to run barefoot?
Do you plan to run more barefoot miles in wintertime?

Be sure to check out the Mileage Reporting forum, post your last year's mileage (both barefoot and minimal), then keep track of your miles for 2015 too!

YES!

'14 was a bad year for me, and while some of my issues have been or are now being resolved, new ones will result. If my shift schedule wasn't already hard to get running time in, now I'll be a single dad 50% of the time (all my days off) so being able to just leave for a few hours to run won't be much of an option. While school is in session I'll be able to run but weekends/summer still scratching my head on that one. Might be doing more weights/excersizes at home and shorter more frequent runs just down the road and back.

With all the new things going on I'm not going to set any big goals, but would like to finally break 1000 miles in a year. My summer mileage is usually inline with that but winter tends to slack off too much. I'm already running less than I'd like but at least I've run more than previous winters thus far.

I've also been thinking about a 50k race in May, but unsure if its barefootable or if I'll be up to it.

I suppose my main goal that I really think I can implement is eating more healthy. Hope to start my garden back up, and maybe get chickens like I've wanted to do for a few years.

I think I have reached my approximate maximum of annual barefoot mileage in 2014, also because the last winter was very barefoot-friendly in my part of Germany.
So, I shall be happy just too keep the 2014 mileage this year.
But at least I plan to run more barefoot miles on the forest trails around the city.

That is good, and I left that out... I too would like to run more on natural trails and hills. Especially since most ultras are trails. I'm 95% barefoot so I'm happy with that (only time wearing shoes is below 10ºF to -15ºC or in deep snow/slush). But too many of my miles are smooth flat paved bike trails (that where once railroads). I bet my yearly total trail miles last year was probably less than 50mi for the entire year.

There is one nature trail right near my house (like a few hundred feet) but it is fairly short, the hill isn't very big, and there is lots of un-natural filled in gravel spots that are pretty miserable to run. But I'll try to run there more. Closest truly natural trail that is nicer to run, with a big hill, is over 30 minutes away. Yvonne knows this hill well. ;) Somehow I need to get myself there more!

I know the problem, Tristan. It is similar in my area: There are quite a few nice forest trails around Marburg, but it is really difficult to find an attractive trail-like round course of several miles length which is completely barefoot-friendly and not interrupted by those ugly rough gravel parts.
I think I will try to explore the area more systematically as soon as winter is gone.

How old are your kids?
Mine love camp. In this day and age, they have a camp for everything you can imagine. We liked traditional camps, YMCA had a nice spot out in the woods, there was a local nature center. They had programs going down to 4yrs, I think. For weekends, short lessons, at least a little 45 minute time here and there.
Even for the young ones, they love half day camps. Good for them to socialize, good for you to get a breather. You'll be a happier dad.

Also, not sure about how rural an area you are in, but local YMCAs are usually really parent supportive.
They are usually dirt cheap compared to other options, have a day care on site, and typically have "parents night out" times for little kids once or twice a month, like 5pm-8pm or something. If your kids are older, they have lots of different programs. Almost every day camp or half camp has them playing in the gym, swimming, doing lots of active things.
Again, not sure how little yours are, but doing the single mom thing here too, and the more community resources you can use, the better.

Thanks for the advice! I have one 8yr old son. Oh yes, thanks for reminding me about camps. ;) He does typically attend one or two through the summer. I'll have to look more into different summer camps though and see what's all available. I've got a few weeks off and lots of plans with my son including some real camping, and visiting family more that is out of state. So I do have a few good plans I think. Funny you mention the YMCA... yeah its pretty rural here and my county has no YMCA actually! They partner up with a local campground to offer swimming lessons in their indoor pool for county residents, I took my son to that a few years ago. No clue what else they might do though. Yes community resources are good... I'm further hindered with no local family and actually no real local friends either. But I hate to sound all down, I'm normally more of a glass half full overly positive kind of fellow, just so much going on that uncertainty (to say the least) is creeping into my thoughts! Thanks for the advice... and I think '15 will be a great year.
