Greetings! Just joined after stumbling on this site while researching Plantar Fasciitis. Thanks for all the fantastic information! I learned 100x what I got from my podiatrist today. :S

A little about me: 49 year old male, 30+ year runner, 23+ professionally (technically I did get paid to run, I spent 23 years in the Army :D).

I was pretty competitive in Clydesdale classes of the local racing scene, particularly in Anchorage, AK. Also ran 3 marathons and 2 marathon-length wilderness races up there. Health issues about 10 years ago messed up my training base, and since then I've been sticking to 3-5 miles, 3-4 days/week. :(

I went from heavy-duty, high $$ motion control shoes that I had to replace every 3-4 months, to Vibram Five Fingers exclusively (including for casual wear, much to my wife's chagrin) about 4 years ago. I bought my first pair to wear on a two week trip to Israel--no running, but walked 5-8 miles/day, running around archaeological sites, etc. Loved them, and was ready to run in them, but when I got back to Alaska there was too much snow on the ground. A set of neoprene ones with ankle gaiters solved that problem, and I was hooked!

Anyway, now I'm just an old, fat retired guy kicking around FL. Hoping to get my foot healed up soon and be able to start running again, now that season is just getting going here in FL.

Thanks again for all the great information on here, and the great camaraderie you all seem to share. Not sure I have much to contribute, but didn't want to be an invisible lurker.

Greg
