Mileage Reporting 45th Week of 2014

Nice 16.5 mile run at 5:30 am., 45 deg. f. more day light with the change in time.
last run of week 10-27-14 thru 11-2-14. Total miles 35
Today was the first day to be able to enter the winter challenge(with the warm weather here).

You guessed it, 3.5 miles, Franklin-Marshall bridge circuit, 34F/22F wc.

The bridges are getting a little harsh, what with the wind, the cement, and the lack of heat-retaining ground underneath.

Legs felt a little tight, might be time for a day off, plus I want to avoid establishing a streak and getting all OCD about that.

That's the same circuit we did on our group run, yes? It's pleasant, with few places to deal with crossing roads. Why change if it ain't broke, right?

You speak of it often, but I am in agreement that starting out at night and finishing just before or as dawn approaches is the best. I rather didn't like the already progressing dawn I had this morning by 7am (yeah, I"m a latenick compared to you).

Sunday morning:sort of a run, out at "quarry park" lovely place with lots of sharp granite rocks, so I wore my NB minimus (my thickest shoes now) for protection because I'm DELICATE. The kids went along and my son complained the ENTIRE TIME,so I wore my earbuds so I couldn't hear him, stopped often, and set a pace that was almost walking level. Not the most satisfyign trail "run" I've ever had, but I"m guessing I got about 4.5 miles out of it by the end, and the park was still so beautiful, lakes where the quarries had been, crunchy birch and oak leaves everywhere, warm(ish) wind blowing, sunshine. It was *semi* enjoyable. It made me remember why I don't push my kids to run with me more.

Monday morning: the usual route, 4ish, at the appropriate time.
Need some ST today and not sure how i'm gonna get it. Doing squats in my office to stay awake. I can't do that in the staff meeting taking place in 30 minutes; is it better to wear dark glasses and nap, or to let them see my eyelids droop? Half of the others will be facing the same dilemma, after all.

Dry and balmy 48°F for 10.1 miles around my pond loop, part of the time with hubby as he would run the opposite direction, then once a lap we would each turn around and end up together for a while (because he would slow down to my pace at those times). I was dressed perfectly for the first 8 miles, in light long running pants and a wool long sleeve undershirt, but then the sun came out to torture me for the last two miles.:p Kept the pace very comfortable and my step light, but I was still apparently quite the monster to the ducks on the path and the feral cats wandering around.

I am in Singapore this week, and yesterday went for a nice and slow 10.3km/6.4mi along the Singapore streets.

I had to go very early in the morning (about 5am) to avoid the day heat. It was still about 28C/82F and about 90% humidity.

Streets are so clean here that I was not too much worried running in the dark....There is zero chance to walk on glass chards here.

Tomorrow I will try to extend to 15km/9.3mi, but I need to wake up early....And tonight I am catching up with friends for a few beers, so we'll see !!

Sounds adventurous nonetheless, to run in new places! You seem to travel a lot. Have you ever run near Milan, Italy. Or more specifically, Monza? That's where I will be next week.

Yep, slept in until 5:30am, so didn't hit the river path until six, still dark, but throughout the run I got to see a new day dawning. Very nice. I usually only get that in the summer months. Lots more joggers out at that hour, many of them speedy university students.
But now you run the risk of getting OCD over getting too OCD about it, thereby breaking your streaks at OCD levels.
;)

I was almost going to give today a miss. My legs and butt are a bit sore from an increase in squat weight Monday afternoon, as my right knee continues to mend, and I have low-level head cold symptoms. But I just didn't like the idea of starting the day without a run. It's become a habit. I guess I don't see any reason to stop unless I'm sick or fatigued. Even then, I can always walk, right? So I guess this is getting OCD about not getting OCD about it . . . Or perhaps I've transcended the OCD into mere habit?

Today's run was 39F/29F wc. I'm fully acclimated now. I stayed a long time on both bridges stretching out on the handrail, admiring the views, and walked the last half mile, enjoying the cool textures.

tuesday: only about 2 miles. got a weird tendon thing going on lately---I think it's due to my calves. They are never way too tight but are always a bit tight. So much for going on rolling/loosening strike for 2 months. Might have to go buy me a roller. Sigh. Swim always loosened my legs....sigh.
about 30 min st at the gym.

I have been there many times, but not for runs! My wife is from that region and I really love the area. I hope you enjoy Italy !

13.3km/8.3mi today, again, very humid morning. I came back to the hotel soaked. I usually don't need water for runs less than 90min but I think with this climate I should have brought some water along...I was quite exhausted

Yah, except lately I've been doing it counterclockwise. The mild chipseal at the end was always a little unpleasant, so now I get it out of the way in the beginning. The two road crossings on the Mpls side aren't a problem at five in the morning, and I like how the two road bridges and the overhead railroad bridge in between them cut the route up into roughly equal quarters, so on those low-energy days, it's easy to mark progress and the approach of the end. I also like to stop and stretch at the midpoint, on Franklin Bridge handrail, and admire the views. If it's not too cold, I often stretch on Marshall Bridges handrails too, which are a bit higher. All-in-all, a very pleasant way to begin the day, and I listen to NBR (National Bourgeois Radio) while commuting the 7-10 minutes to and fro. Still waiting for my pace to start to pick up, but in the meantime I'm glad my legs seem to be adapting fine to the daily one-legged forward hopping. I like how 3-3.5 miles never seems to require more than 24 hours recovery time.

Left ankle felt a little funny at the end of this morning's run, however, so might be time to take a break, or just stretch more. Speaking of office exercise, I built a little contraption for doing the splits, out of parallel 2x4s. I splay my legs out akimbo on furniture glides while pulling on the assembled 2x4s, then I wrap a exercise band behind me and onto some metal hooks screwed into the wood in front of me, and read a book while I incrementally decrease the space between my groin and the wood. Hurts so good. Hoping to get back to doing the splits some time next year. It would be nice to be limber again. I'm already noticing a difference I think.

The kids went along and my son complained the ENTIRE TIME, . . . It made me remember why I don't push my kids to run with me more.
Haha, you're a great mom! They'll thank you some day.

1. you must always switch direction for at least one run in every 10 to restore balance to the universe. BALANCE, my boy.

2. That "mild" chipseal DID NOT make me cry, on accounta there was peoples watching me. I tried to quietly wince and run on the curb while the conversation went right along all casual-like. The one sissy girl delicate lady moment I experienced that day.
