Mileage Reporting 43rd Week of 2014

4 mile run at 5:00 am still in the 60 deg temp range here.
few rabbits
partly cloudy skies could still spot some stars.

3 miles or so, no wildlife seen, did see a couple of tomcats prowling @5:30 this morning. I just realized that compared to Runlite, I run in a boring neighbor hood. Then after seeing some of the pictures that Sked has posted from his runs just confirms this fact. :( One thing I have noticed on my early morning weekend runs in the dark is that I step on a lot less sharp pointy stuff than I do on my weekday daylight runs. Maybe the daylight lulls me into a false sense of security. Trying to get many BF runs in before the snows hit in a couple of weeks. Not looking forward to putting the Sockwa's or Kigo's on my feet.

I hiked about 5.5 km yesterday, in my merrell trail gloves then felt a bit bold and took them off to run a couple of km on the last section of the trail. I go barefoot a lot and run a bit fully barefoot but usually in some form of minimal shoes.

That short trail run yesterday felt so good I decided to go again this morning. I picked a less steep trail and left the shoes at home. I've walked and run this area in my trail gloves many times but today was my first trail run being fully barefoot. That was 4 hours ago and my feet are still on fire. The foot muscles seem strong enough but even after all my barefoot activities, the soles felt too soft. This track has lots of sharp stones and it was a lesson in keeping the knees bent and treading carefully. The difference between somewhat minimal shoes and actual barefoot is amazing. The uphills were easy. The downhills were tentative. The flats were glorious. It was a fun 5km and I will do it again next time.

Day late but for the record no miles last week (if you cont the marathon Sunday as the previous week anyhow). Besides the muscles being worn out for a few days I did hurt my achilles on my right foot:sour: , probably related to the issues that have been plaguing me all year, and the same thing that happened on my last 24 mile run too. Right were it attaches to the heel felt like a strain or tear or something. Might not have healed in time the first time to be strained again so quickly (2 weeks from 24 mile run to the race). Last time it felt like it healed in about 3 days or so but this time it bothered me all week. Just yesterday it felt like I could walk normal most of the day (when I woke it was still a bit tight, but afternoon felt noticeably better for the first time), and today I haven’t felt a trace of pain yet and walking normal again.

I did a couple easy bike rides last week - as long as I didn't stand up on the pedals and push hard it seemed fine on the legs.

Hope you heal up soon Tristan! Be especially vigilante with the Achilles. Like the back, I've heard it's easy to screw that up for life. It's one of the hardest injuries to rehab I think.

Meanwhile, I've captured the lead in the Winter Challenge:p. I probably won't switch back to afternoon running in the winter, so the lead will be fleeting. I'm just really enjoying the first-thing-in-the-morning daily 5K. We'll see if I still feel that way when it's -30C though .
