Mileage Reporting 41st week of 2014

Another 2 miles, 37F, a little frost two hours later when I was taking out the trash. The moon is still quite beautiful. That's three days in a row now, two miles each time (and a mile return in the afternoon). Legs seem fine, so maybe the deadlift strain was a blessing in disguise, as long as there's no longterm damage. The right knee still clicks a bit sometimes, and there's this weird crinkling feeling in the middle of my quads when I descend stairs. The hammie still feels tight was well. I guess this is why we like veal--old meat gets tough and chewy.
Not reporting too much mileage lately. Still running but doing pre winter slacking type runs of between 2-4 miles. Did just over 2 miles this morning at a air temperature of -6C. While running at this temperature I realized that I would rather be running at these temperatures than walking on wet grass at +6C on a golf course. Now I have a caution for those that are ready to challenge new low temperature PR. Treat this like you did when you started your barefoot running journey, do not fall into the TMTS. Also as people have suggested, carry a backup plan. When I run in temperatures of colder than -5C I am never farther than 5 minutes from home. This way I can bail any where along my route should I feel that my feet are not comfortable. Also remember that 5 minutes seems like a short time to get some place warm, think again. The first time I managed to get frostbite it was -12C and had started to snow when I was about 5 minutes away from home. Now as people have mentioned here melting snow on your feet gets the feet wet, wet feet at those temps mean trouble. I turned for home as soon as the snow started and by the time I got home I found that I had a case of frostbite on my toes. Again, use caution when running barefoot in freezing temps on snow and ice, and proceed slowly in this journey of discovery. :coldfeet: :)
Wuss.

Seriously Dutchie is spot-on. Always bring back-up if you're the least bit doubtful, and avoid snow unless you're Yvonne or Barefoot Rick or a few others that somehow manage to run in moisture below freezing.

And yes wet grass is killer.

I usually enjoy fall, but I think I'm still traumatized by last winter, the fifth worst on record here in the Twin Cities. Now when a cold wind from Valhalla blows, I feel a chill of existential dread run up my spine, knowing Old Man Winter is on his way, and already threatening Winterpeg, and I find myself pining for Florida instead of ancestral Fjords.

But I'll probably be fine with it in another few days . . . adaptation is a wonderful thing.

A little over 4, 30F. Bright moon and frosty sunrise.
I'm not sure how you all do total bf in that temp, since I'm at my limit in sandals. In fact, for whatever reason today my toes felt colder than yesterday, even though the conditions were identical.
However, after a long time of getting no looks at all in sandals (it is only the total bf that seems to make people think I'm crazy and scary, apparently), I'm finally getting the attention I deserve once again, as people become scandalized by my bare legs and exposed toes in the chilly morning temps.

I tried an experiment this week, I did run 4 days in a row to see how my feet coped...Result is not so good.

While I managed to run 51km/32mi for the week, my feet are not ready for such long streak yet....I think at best 2 days in a row, at worst 3....

Nevertheless, happy with my running week, it's now 2 weeks in a row, I run over 50km.

Morning: 2 mi to warm up and start the day. A few sit ups

Nice run in Minneapolis yesterday! Perfect weather. 3ish. Great company.
Golden trees and the Mississippi river.
Sadly, though, My legs are all kinds of tight this morning. I did the perfect storm: ran, then sat, then drove, then sat, then had dinner (vietnamese) with friends visiting minneapolis for a conference, then drove for 1hr10min, then got home and sat while i entered grades and chatted with a friend. See a pattern? Sit sit sit sit run sit sit sit sit sit go to sleep, wake up an don't get surprised when it's all seized up.
Ok, maybe I should have a roller again.

26.2 miles, all but a bit less than 2 miles barefoot due to very rough asphalt. Last 5 miles were the hardest 5 miles of my life, but I am still glad I did it. Will plan on writing a more thorough race report in a couple days.

13 miles at 5:30 am 55 deg. f. 82 % rh.
saw some ducks flying over head and a flock of parrots.

I got to see the sunrise and watch the moon at the same time (kinda cool)
last run of the week for me. Total miles 26.

Way to go! Hope your not as sore as I was the next day after my first!

This week started a little slow - my long run last Sunday really took a lot out of me. That and all the hard work I'm doing at home. Even today I felt week and had trouble hitting my maf hr until nearly the end of my 12 miler. Next weekend is my marathon #2... working days next three days so may not get any runs in then, and later in the week I may try just a few miles a couple times to keep the legs moving.

Total this week 23.5 mi

Also forgot to add that since last week was nightshift for me - that means stair workouts. But following the big long run the previous Sunday I started out pretty modest and worked my way up to norm by the last day. My routine is every other hour I get up and do several flights (if I'm feeling very energetic I might do every 1.5hrs). So at once I'm not doing a lot, but since I'm at work I don't really want to spend too much time or work up a sweat or anything so it works out well. I typically do between 8 and 17 floors at a time (my full workout is 8 the first and last and 17 flights all the rest). They are high rise floors, a bit taller than average, most are 20 steps a few are a little more.
Monday 32
Tuesday 40
Wednesday 50-60-ish
Thursday 70-80-ish
(couldn't remember exactly the last two)

Great Job Laura! Looking forward to the report.

Easy recovery week for me with 16 miles (5 bare, 6 sandals, 5 shod). Happy to report I actually listened to my body and shut down the running after feeling a little foot stress. Also felt pretty groggy all week from missing that night of sleep.

A couple of miles here and there every day, some weights here and there. Hectic week. Allergies getting to be too much. I love the warm windy days, but it's blowing around something my system finds wicked.
