Just shows you how this Slow Roll thing really IS bringing the people of Detroit together, shod or not. I was surprised they didn't show a quick angle of my bare feet as well!

Not a chance, this week's Lions will KICK so you guys don't stand a chance.
Hope the new guy doesn't relapse too soon.

Really awesome community. The day I discovered it I was in Downtown Detroit for a bike and a run in the late afternoon.
People asked me if I was going to do Slow Roll that evening but I had a meeting at 6:30 pm so I couldn't, since they start at 7:00pm.
When I arrived on my bike back at my car at 5:00 pm I saw several hundred cyclists marshaling for something, I asked what it was and they said " Slow Roll".
I figured there was some screw-up with time, so I thought I'd ride a bit with them.
Really weird, they kept riding up and down the same street and stopping to re group every two or three minutes. A professional film crew was taping the whole thing as well!
Some riders told me they were filming a documentary.
They zoomed in on me a bunch of times, from a truck with a boom and real camera guy, but after about a half hour a guy stopped everyone and came up to me wanting to know who I registered with.
Turned out EVERYONE had signed waivers and submitted photos and they couldn't find me in their files!
They booted me out, and the next week I went to the REAL Slow Roll where I was interviewed for the PBS show before the ride.
A few months later the secret that only riders Jason Hall and Mike McKool knew about was released...
It was an iPad ad being filmed featuring the Slow Roll story!
I ended up on the cutting room floor because of the waiver thing, but how cool would THAT have been!
The ad turned out great, view it here:

Maybe Apple will build a few factories in Detroit instead of China?

Shinola chose Detroit to manufacture their watches as well as bicycles following their purchase of the name from the defunct shoe polish company.
Their research indicated that Built in Detroit would add extra value to their product, so they moved in and enjoy very low operating costs as well. Their stuff is selling REALLY good in New York!

Jason Hall was appearing at Apple stores around the country following the release of that ad. Just hanging out and signing autographs etc. He is actually making money off this thing!

Sounds good. I've always had a soft spot for Detroit, ever since I took a few courses on labor and urban sociology back in college.
Unfortunately, the price of oil looks like it'll stay down for a while. I was hoping higher shipping costs might drive a little more industry back to our shores.
The bigger foe, of course, is QE. Just completely gutting the economy.
Go Lions!
Go Vikes!

One regular Slow Roll guy had to take to their Facebook page in the weeks following the ad release to vent:
(I'm paraphrasing but probably pretty close}
"Ok I know you white people don't get this but just 'cause I've got dreads, glasses, and a beard I am NOT Jason Hall! At least 50 people or more congratulated me last night during the ride!"

I might have been one of them! STILL not sure.

The domestic auto manufacturers can't even get their completed vehicles shipped to dealerships because of a rail shortage! The rail cars are all shipping oil and other higher profit freight. I never realized how dependent they were on rail shipping, I had thought trucks did most of it. Guess they only do the shorter hauls.
I ordered a new van to replace the old BRS mobile that was totaled.
It's a Ford scheduled to be built in Kansas City, but they are already being stockpiled there unable to find rail cars or time.
The old one was built in Germany by Mercedes, broken down in Italy at the sea port, shipped in pieces to North Carolina on multiple vessels, reassembled as an American Dodge "truck", and shipped to Detroit.
I thought this time around things would be faster.........WRONG!
Even the build date has now been pushed back another nine weeks!
QE is scheduled to be tapered down next week they say.
